Are there any other sales in the new year by BA, or Virgin that could cover our dates?
anyone know?
I'm not bothered who we book with. Just looking for the cheapest operator really.
Obviously difficult to predict, since only the airlines themselves know. A useful resource for seeing when airlines (especially BA) have done sales for each cabin in the past is http://blog.continentalclub.co.uk/
The current BA sale includes your dates for business class and above, but not for economy or PE. In any case, you won't be able to book those dates with most airlines for a couple of weeks, as they usually only release seats for booking around 355 days before flight date (that's BA, others may vary slightly).0 -
Agree with SW17, economy tickets can be sold at full price during Christmas so you won't see a sale during that period, only for the 'empty' business and first class sections, which will not be cheap. Christmas fares are usually sold out, booking the day the fares go on sale isn't always the best bet for most routes and times but for Christmas I would make an exception. I seem to recall the press releases last week from the main airports all suggesting New York was one of the top three, and in some cases, the top destination for Christmas!0

So is the general feeling that for Chrustmas, you should book flights as soon as they are released because of the demand for these dates?
We have been to New York in non peak holiday times -and booked about six months ahead.
Looking at Norwegian airlines which have some pretty decent prices, but only go up to November '16 at the moment.
Also looking at possibly flying from Berlin or Reykjivik (sp) as the lower taxes can make for some very reasonable prices, even factoring in the extra costs for getting there.0 -
Norwegian operate Dreamliner aircraft in a narrow seat, 31" pitch with narrow aisles, this means there is much less shoulder room than on BA, can be uncomfortable if you aren't a small person.
They also don't have enough aircraft and limited back up resources if things go wrong.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

A little bit of help if you don't mind, going to NYC next month in half term with 2 kids, tempted to try and see the New York Rangers play, any recommendations on where to buy reasonably cheap tickets, looked on Stubhub and it's quite expensive, but it might be the normal price. Also any recommendations on places to take the kids they are 12 and 10, any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
Cheers

If you're not connecting to another flight, and you're staying in Manhattan, not much difference either way from a transport perspective. If you are staying outside Manhattan, obviously one of them is likely to be more convenient than the other, depending where you are.
I don't use EWR very often, but it's been perfectly fine when I've used it. Have had a longish wait at immigration there once or twice, but you can get that at JFK too, depending on terminal and what flights come in just before yours. Neither airport is a spectacular experience on departure.
I would choose first on price/schedule. If that is equal and my airline of choice flies to both, I'd probably choose the one which is their bigger hub, as more options if anything goes wrong (e.g. with BA, I would choose JFK on this basis, but only if price/schedule were equal).0 -

Newark is good for getting to cheaper accommodation in Jersey city.
Downside is that it is dominated by United flights and departing security from their terminals can be very slow. Being a non Eu carrier you don't get EU reg Ec261/2004 benefits when leaving from the US to the UK.
JFK has most BA and Virgin flights. I have flown both recently. Virgin use the same terminal as Delta and this terminal seems to get more crowded than BA's.
My preference is BA to and from JFK, for the large number of flights everyday, even when United and Delta/Virgin are cheaper.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
