As said . It takes about an hour on the plane (plus check in) and about 10 h the bus service. not know about train . fly to BUF and about half hour shuttle to niagra about 20 miles away. Its a long day either way but an overnight stay at niagra could work
Considered it briefly on our trip but for all the reasons listed it did not work out.

But then, we were almost due to fly out before one of the boys casually asked if it would be possible, after I'd been asking what they'd like to do for MONTHS! If they'd suggested it sooner I'd have considered the possibility more serious.

  • Flights are booked for next December. never been at this time of year before.

Just looking at accomadation and wondering how far ahead we should book. Any thoughts.? We're thinking if booking one if the Affina group of hotels as we want a suite rather than just a hotel room.

Just wondered if this type if accomidation gets booked up quickly.
    Thanks

With the cold weather it could be good to pick a hotel not too far way from a subway station so at the end of the day when you're feeling tired and cold you can get back to the hotel quickly without the expense of taxis and getting stuck in traffic.

Have a look at suite prices for Feb and March and then compare them with December to see if there is much difference in price.

If staying on Manhattan isn't a requirement, then consider staying in Jersey city, you might find a luxury apartment that's cheaper than a suite.

It's difficult to predict pricing as NYC hotels are heavily revenue-managed and Affinia are no different. It also depends when in December you are travelling. The first couple of weeks are still high season, especially at weekends, and Manhattan prices are unlikely to be low unless there was an event that reduced overall demand to the city. the second half of December is usually a lot cheaper, apart from New Year.

You could hedge your bets by booking a refundable rate now and then keep an eye out for price fluctuations.

Thanks. Good tip about being close to a Subway station. That's always top of our list. Want to stay in Manhatten as will be doing all the touristy stuff with our daughter who has never been before.

We have been Looking at the various accomadation providers, and we'll probably book a refundable hotel, and if it gets cheaper nearer the time, or we fancy somewhere else, then we have no penalty. The rate with the Afinia was a good deal, and directly with the hotel, but you had to pay the total up front.
We don't want to pay so far in advance.

We're going in the Middle of December. Good idea about booking a refundable rate. Happier doing this than paying the full amount so far in advance.

    Hi,
I'm going to New York in May (3rd visit :):):):)) I've seen the pedicab bikes but never been on them for a central park tour. Anyone any idea on the best way to use them - should i book previously or just turn up?? Is there a company that's better to use than others? Are there companies to avoid? & how much should i expect to pay for two of us?

    Many Thanks
  • Has anyone stayed here, if so what time does breakfast start and finish?
Hope enigma gets a reply because I was looking at those bikes.

  • I have been to the US before so have a current ESTA, it does run out in March. So first question is, if I go in March should I renew before I go if it runs out while I am there and 2nd question the two people I am going with have never been before and I see advice on getting the ESTA before booking a holiday just in case you are refused an ESTA (not likely to happen in their case, but you never know) but the ESTA looks like it needs an address and date of travel, which we don't know until we get the ESTA. So how do we apply, what do we put down?

Applied for an esta yesterday and if you don't know where you're staying you put Unknown in the address boxes / telephone number box.

I think that if the esta runs out whilst you're in the US you're ok and departure won't be a problem.

Advise for my daughter please who is going out to USA to take part in a Camp America next summer in Maine. She has flight into JKF that arrives at 7pm and then a bus out from Port Authority Bus terminal the following morning at 7am. Bearing in mind she will have a suitcase with her and needs to be at Port Authority in good time any tips on overnight accommodation?
