While I've only been to the Rockefeller, I can't imagine the views are radically different - they're very close together.
I've been up Rockefeller at night and whilst it's nice seeing ESB all lit up, if I was choosing, I'd go for daytime because other than the lights of the buildings downtown, Central Park is a big block of darkness so one side of the building is kind of redundant. We had planned for day and night because the views will be totally different. There's also the fact I'm going with someone who hasn't been to NYC before and I didn't want to just impose my opinion that nighttime Top of Rock was a bit rubbish, so only go up in daytime. We had time to do both and had initially thought it was possible, unfortunately they've e-mailed back and it isn't.
New question now though, has anyone any idea if bus tours (particularly Gray Line) can be haggled cheaper on the street than available online.0 -
I've been told that if you go up just before sunset you get to see daytime and night time if you are prepared to hang around for a while. Might be worth considering?0

ermmmm yup!play it by ear when you are there. check the sunset times for the new york area for the time you are there and then arrive an hour or so before sun down and buy your ticket then.
however be aware that sun down is the busiest time of day to be at the top of the rock and you may struggle to get some clear space to take some shots as everyone else will be up there doing the same thing.
that being said i never get sick of seeing the sunset over mahattan and then, for me, the even more impressive sight of the island lighting upLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Oooops, sorry, phatbear, missed that one!0

Personally I'd only ever go up to Top of the Rock day or night as NYC is framed beautifully by the Empire State Building. Only go up the ESB if you want to go up it to say you've done it!
Be careful with passes that you get your timed tickets early - night time had sold out by the time I wanted to go so I had to book for the following night.0 -

The view of central park from TOTR is fantastic.
We did TOTR sun and stars (early morning and then back for sunset) and ESB late at night.
Planning on taking my son next year and would only bother with TOTR again doing sun and stars. (and One World Trade)TESCO EVERY LITTLE change to the t&cs HELPS0 -
I wish to visit there but I have no idea about the festivals and events of this area. I was to plan a trip to New York City but I need some information about some upcoming musical carnivals of this area? If someone have the information than feel free to share over here. It might be possible that it would be help ful for me.0

Yup - plenty of info on NYC and area events online and easily googleable. I was doing this just last week to see what was playing and where on the potential dates for my next visit.
And don't forget to look at New Jersey as well - You are never short of music in NYC but over the Hudson also has a thriving scene.0
