I wouldn't have noticed, as I have the thread bookmarked.

Why does Vegas still get it's thread sticky?

Changing things just because a new forum is coming, makes no sense to me.

Sorry guys, that's my fault. I added it to the collated sticky but didn't unstick it by accident

    Hi everyone,

Looking to do 4/5 in NYC for my partners 30th birthday present, in November.

I have found cheap flights with Norwegian Air, I have read reviews and seemingly the only bad ones are due to problems with their new Dreamliners, as opposed to the airline itself. I would imagine by November these problems will be ironed out, but anyone that has first-hand experience I would love to hear your thoughts. I’d love to save money on the flights to spend out there, but of course don’t want a horrible experience!

Also, can anyone advise on a real luxury hotel (possible with hot tubs in the rooms, good views etc). I am hoping to stay for 3/4 nights in a reasonably priced hotel, and splash out on a bit of luxury on the last night (not MSE but it’s a special birthday!).

    Thanks,

    DJS

Dates, flight times, etc. I can't compare, I can't check anything. What airports are you flying from? What is your nightly budget for the reasonable hotel, and what is your nights budget for the 1 night hotel (which IMO is a waste of time, as you lose a whole day changing hotels, out by 11am at one, can't check into the other until 3).

  • You'll find it difficult to get feedback on Norweigen transatlantic as they haven't started yet and won't until July. But by all accounts Norweigen are typically Scandinavian, good, clean service with no nonsense.

Not quite so difficult, as they have been flying out of Norway and Denmark for a few months to Florida and Thailand. I know some of the issues have been with the Dreamliner, however some issues as well with the decision to only accept cards and not cash onboard. I think this was changed though after a few complaints and massive news headlines in Norwegian press.

Having flown Norwegian shorthaul quite a few times, if the price and time was right, I wouldn't hesitate in booking a flight with them.

    Hi M4RKM,

I’d only had a very quick browse of this thread, I didn’t realise there was someone so helpful here.

The flights I have found for £601 are departing from Gatwick on 8th November, returning 13th November.
Totally flexible on dates (aside from wanting to stick with November), and London airports however. Ideally want to go for 5 nights, but would look at just 4.

I’ve changed my mind on the hotels, for the same reasons you’ve given, and would prefer to spend the extra money on doing something nice/posh meal etc, and I know we won’t spend much time at the hotel, so a waste really.

Ideally looking to spend £1500 on the flights & hotel, so with those flights I have around £900 to play with for hotels. Would be great to be near Times Square if possible. I’m going to do some proper searching this evening as I have some spare time, but any help you can give is very much appreciated.

I've looked at them flights, and the flight time out is shocking. Getting into NYC at 9pm? Is that right? I think that's a waste of half a day, and probably a good reason why they're cheap. Also, you have to pay extra for a meal, and it's Gatwick which ain't a great airport.

Anyway. £900 for a hotel.. hmm.. at todays exchange rate thats $260 per night before taxes. It's not a cheap time, I think you'll have just missed Marathon weekend, which makes prices crazy..

Why Times Square? Are you going to shows every night?

Being near a subway is the most important. You can always visit Times Square and see it.

Night Hotel - Times Square is $251 a night with a Full Bed (UK Double)
Cosmopolitan Hotel - Tribeca - $290 a night (great hotel, I've stayed there many times)
Element by Westin - Times Square West is $294 a night for a KING bed, and this is a prepaid rate

Maybe book a cancellable rate, and then keep looking, not much in Manhattan right now in your price range..

So.. NYC tomorrow for 7 nights. My plan only takes me into Manhattan twice... Wondering if I've planned it wrong..

Saying that, I've lived in London for 2 and a bit years, and still not stepped foot in Leicester Square or Covent Garden... :D
