Hi,
I am trying to figure out if I can afford to go to New York! How much money do you think you would need for meals in NYC? Probably middle of the road nothing too fancy but nothing too cheap either? thinking about staying for 7 nights and would like to enjoy without penny pinching but yet not splurging!
Thanks
There's always a McDonalds option to fall back on for a cheaper day.0 -
agree with that . costs are similar to London or Edinburgh . Slip down a side street and get cheaper . Lots of Macci dees etc delis are a good daytime meal and everywhere for breakfast on the go . decent food outlets and restraunts will set you back but you have to have a good time and live the life or its not worth going , Visit places wisely and plan ahead a bit . but enjoy NYC:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Agree. And I like to have McD's there as well...They decant Big Mac sauce as a condiment if you ask which is delicious with fries!
I asked them to do it here and got this  ha ha0 -

I agree with other comments. Also you can sign up to Groupon etc for offers for lunch/dinner etc which is great.0 -
I used Google Maps to plan food and other things.
Within walking distance of the hotel was an excellent Italian, an Irish bar and a Thai restaurant. Something in Times Square might cost a little more, but you could say you did it! Find places on the map, research them online and get out there to enjoy it.
Cheap /familiar: McDonalds, Starbucks, Subway etc. Remember McDonalds do a $1 coffee. When we were there last year they charged $6 for two sausage muffins with two coffees at breakfast.
Find out where the nearest TD Bank ATM is. They don't charge for withdrawing cash, unlike most other ATMs.
Don't forget to add on sales tax (just under 9%) and in bar or restaurant (not fast food) a tip. Payable, but rarely included in the price.0 -
Hi, love this thread. Can someone please recommend a hotel for a family of four that has a hotel suite? We are travelling with young children that in the evening they can sleep and we can just relax and watch some tv without disturbing them. At the moment, all I can find is Affina Dumont...any others? Many thanks xxx
Hi, have a look at the Salsbury hotel ,we stayed here in 2012, not fancy, but clean, safe, rooms are huge, we had a one bedroomed suite..massive sitting area with a double sofa bed for the 2 teens, and we had a large bedroom with 2 double beds in, bathroom, and a small kitchenette area with microwave, fridge, and coffee maker, great location too, next door to a great wee deli selling hot and cold food all day.

We went this November for the Black Friday sales and stayed 4 nights at the Wellington Hotel for £678 per person incl flights from LHR, on Expedia. Although the same trip is showing for £1,520 per person at the moment, (or £1,920 per person for your 6 nights) so I'm guessing prices will come down a lot, I'd hope! We usually book 2 -3 months ahead.
Hi Josie, what was Black Friday like? We've just booked for the same weekend arriving on Thanksgiving.....0 -
Hi guys, always wanted to go and have finally booked for four nights on 27 November (Thanksgiving). Staying at YOTEL, anyone been? Will start looking through this thread for ideas on planning the weekend! Has anyone been for Thanksgiving before? Not sure if we will need to make reservations for somewhere or if we'll be able to just have a wander after we've checked in and manage to get seated......0

Ah black friday...:) you will have a great time. We went last year..shopped for 14 hours from 0630 until could not walk/stand anymore ha ha. Be prepared to have a few days off when you return home.. I certainly needed it.
I'd say book somewhere... McDonalds wasn't even open...0
