Hi Mamara is great but the upper east side location is too far out for me. However they will be opening another on Park Avenue this year so watch out for that.
I also like Affinia Dumont very nice, and in a great location
Thanks for that! I spent some time looking into it and they all seem to be either booked up or much more expensive than the ones my friends found through the travel agent, so I think we'll stick with that.0 -
How long does it take on the subway from Times Square to the boat for Statue of Liberty. If I want to go on the 9.30 boat what time do I need to be leaving for please?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

If you want to be on the 9.30 boat you need to arrive a good 30 mins before that to clear security, airport style, shoes coats belts etc. off, walk through metal detector etc.
If you have crown tickets booked you have to pick them up from the ticket office first, although that was pretty quick when we went in Dec.
Subway about 25 mins according to the MTA site HERE. Bowling green or South Ferry stations are the nearest.0 -

*coughs* not strictly true.
The only reason I'm saying that, is becuase I did the 9:30 boat after a heavy night out.. I rocked up at 9:20, wandered through security, and straight onto the boat....
If I'd missed it, I would have been first on the next boat. pompeyrich talking about best practices, and I would have done that if I hadn't have been hungover..
Subway from Times Square to South Ferry takes around 20 mins then a short 5 min walk to the boat, but that doesn't involve the walk from your hotel to the Times Square 42nd Street Subway stop, which you could be a mile away knowing the naming convention of some of the hotels in "Times Square"

Ooooooo I could only dream of a heavy night - I'll have my 15 year old tow so I'm not even sure I can go in a bar.....
Our hotel is Hotel Metro.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
The trip planner in my post above has the Hotel Metro as a recognised departure point or destination. Type it into the from box, statue of liberty ferry as to and it will show you an 8 min walk to the subway, I would say 5 mins the other end. If you click on "map" once the itineries are shown it will show you turn by turn directions. Really is a good planner.0

Yeah, you can. All bar/restaurants will allow you and yours to sit in the restaurant, while you have a meal, you can have some drinks. You can't sit at the bar, you can't go into a bar that doesn't serve food. There may, much like pub/restaurants in the UK, a time where you have to leave.0 -
Just wanted to pop in this thread as I've finally booked for a week in April after months of oooh'ing and aaaaah'ing!! I'll be going alone (eeek) and hopefully staying with my aunt for the majority of the time in Manhattan, but also tempted to book one or two nights via Airbnb.
Anyway, just wondered if many people went to New York alone and if people are quite friendly?!"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0
