It's 2 of us.
Those guesses are doing things at an average price. For example we want to do one expensive meal and the rest cheap or mid price. Same goes for shopping.0 -
So you've answered your own question . Have a great time:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Just trying to calculate spending money:
We are staying for 5 nights. Does this sound like a realistic budget for our stay or is it too stingy or generous?
$750 for dinner. We are planning on visiting one high priced restaurant in this.
$300 for breakfast and lunch and drinks each day.
$1000 on shopping (planning on getting some outlet designer stuff, maybe some jewelry)
$300 for sightseeing.
$500 for miscellaneous and tips.
Ok.
I think you're putting things in unnecessary categories. $2100 all in you're saying.
Food - (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner - include drinks and tips) $600 each (I'm guessing here)
Shopping - £390 each is the max, so $1000 is OK
Travel - $31 each for Subway, plus some for taxis, make that $200 total.
Sightseeing - $300 - what are you planning on seeing - have you looked at the costs, and worked it out?
Miscellaneous - What else is there? I've run out of budget anyway.
All in all $1050 each for 5 nights isn't bad especially as you've got a lot for shopping. I'd personally eat better and drink better than shop so much, but that's just me.

Thanks M,
By miscellaneous I mean stuff like tips, maybe any overlooked or unexpected things (I was being very generous with that budget).
It's out fitst time to NY so we wanted to do all the normal things so far I have TOTR (maybe ESB too), 9/11 memorial, MoMA, Highline, Staue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Times Square, Central Park and maybe a Circle cruise. We will be doing MoMA on a Friday evening to get free admission, so it's only really 3 or 4 things we need to pay to do and I have had a look and think the Go Select pass will be best value for money here.
We will probably do way less shopping than that, but just wanted to be on the safe side.0 -

I'd personally NOT do MoMA on a Friday Evening, it's like a cattle market.
There is a joint MoMA / TOTR ticket which is what I'd do for those two attractions. http://www.topoftherocknyc.com/special-offers/combo-tickets/rock-moma/
I'd get your SoL ticket from statuecruises.com as this is the official site, you get to choose which boat you want, so I'd go with the first one of the day to avoid the queues, and then the rest are really all free activities anyway, apart from the cruise if you decide to do it.

Thanks M,
There are so many different passes it all gets so confusing!
The paid attractions we wish to see for definate are:
ToTR
MoMA
Statue Cruises
and the possibly:
ESB
Circle Cruise
I take your suggestipns of the ToTR/MoMA joint pass and Statue cruises as the cheapest, but what would be the best option if we wanted to throw ESB and Circle cruises into the equation?
Also are there any other attractions you would advise doing that perhaps aren't so well known about?0 -
Hi all, especially Mark!
I'd welcome any advice you can give regarding booking the following flights:
Ideally outward: BRS - JFK 8th May
Return: BOS - BRS 21st May
But also open to LHR - JFK, return BOS - LHR (same dates)
We'd prefer to fly from Bristol if possible, but it seems impossible to get direct flights, so hence the option of going from London. What do people think about the pros/cons of flying from a local airport (and flights with a stopver) vs trekking up to London?
I've found flights from London with Delta for £465 on their website (£460 on ebookers), but quite like Mark's idea of the economy comfort upgrade.
Any thoughts on whether this is a good price or could we find cheaper? What about airlines such as KLM, Air France - any preferences?
Thanks for any advice you cna offer.

Aaah. The Joys of the Multi City itinerary.
I've had a quick look, I use Kayak for my searches like this, and then investigate further. I see £490 with Delta for LHR-JFK / BOS - LHR.
For Bristol Airport, it isn't as easy, and you do end up flying via AMS which I've done once before from MAN-AMS-JFK and it just made for a very long day. Other options are BRU, but again, you're flying INTO Europe to go West, which to me isn't logical.
£542 gives me an Aer Lingus fare, and that's not bad. You're flying the correct direction to DUB, and then you'll head to JFK. This is probably the best.
Now if you're solo, this is only £52 more, which you wouldn't be able to get to LHR have a hotel etc for the same money, but if there are 2 people, that's then £104, and then it's a fine line which is cheaper.
I've flown Aer Lingus, and they're not a bad airline at all. Is the cost about right? Probably.
The other way to calculate things, is to look at BRS-JFK-BRS and get Amtrak or whatever both ways. It probably won't work out cheaper.0 -
Thanks Mark. Appreciate you taking the time to check this for me and it's reassuring to see that I'm more or less on the right lines.0
