    More advise please guys.

Going to New York end of Nov, leaving Heathrow Terminal 3 via American Airlines, coming back using BA and arriving at terminal 5.

I would like to stay in a hotel the night before I travel near the airport and use the parking facilities for the duration I am away.

Any advice, using the MSE parking price checker I can get some good deals but it's getting back to terminal 3 after I arrive back at terminal 5 (a taxi is estimated at @£25-£30.).

Any ideas, I hope I'm making sense

    Hi ya
    What time is your flight?
Could you stay at T3 hotel and park there then get to T5 in the morning? does the hotel have a shuttle bus?

Hey Guys, long time since I've been on here! We went to NYC in 2010 and loved it!!

We're wanting to go to NYC for Christmas & New year 2014, Just wondering what happens in New York on Christmas day is there places open and stuff or is it like the UK where everything is shut pretty much?

    Steph xx

Thanks for the tips - will keep an eye out; obviously if I need cash I will just use a Cashpoint with a low surcharge.

Surcharging annoys me as they are already getting paid via MasterCard or Visa network so it is pure profit (in most cases).

Halifax don't have any relationship with any US bank, so it's pot luck if you can find a fee free one. Try Sovereign, or TD Bank first.

Mark, we are going to try your recommendation of Fettu Sau one of our nights as we both love BBQ food.

I'm looking for some help with getting there and getting to the Brooklyn Bridge after dinner to walk over (even stopping off at DUMBO for a beer (lager's my fav)).

I'm guessing its the L train getting off at either Bedford Ave or Lorimer St? This is where I got really stuck, I couldn't find the subway stations on street view in google maps to see where you would get the subway down to bridge, can you help please?

The problem is, it's not easy to get from DUMBO to Williamsburg. I think off the top of my head the B62 bus is probably the easiest. I'll have to have a look. Otherwise, you're back into Manhattan, up to Union Square then the L to Bedford.

From there it's about a 10 min walk to Fette Sau.

There are many different types of lager. Brooklyn which is a Vienna style lager is on my all time list. So drinkable and full of flavour.

I was on my phone last night, and misread what you said. Personally, I would leave the Brooklyn Bridge / DUMBO to a different time, than visiting Williamsburg. It isn't the most convenient, as they're totally different areas.

However, if your time is limited and you must do this, then this is how.

From Manhattan to Fette Sau - Take the L train from any of the stops in Manhattan towards Brooklyn. Get on towards the front (direction of travel).

Get off at Bedford Ave - This is the first stop in Brooklyn. As you're at the front of the train, the nearest exit is Driggs Ave. When you get above ground, you want to walk south, which is with the direction of travel.

Walk down for N4th Street, and hang left, then you'll get to a junction with Metropolitan Ave, and on the opposite side of the road, there is Fette Sau.

Once you've pigged out (see what I did there!), (oh and there is plenty of great beer (better than lager), available in Fette Sau, at Spuyten Duyvil right opposite, or many other choices within Williamsburg, more so than DUMBO, which isn't an area I've ever considered drinking in), you need to walk back along Metropolitan Ave, hang right, get the B62 Bus through to Gold Street / York Street.

Then you can walk back into Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge.

    BOOM!

I bought a Brooklyn bottle of lager from tesco last week to try and loved it, not sure if its the same one you mention.

Your probably right, we'll maybe just head over for dinner then hit a few of the bars in the area and then double back into East Village for a few, this would mean I've covered two areas that I would like to.

I'll look through your previous post about the pub crawl in Brooklyn and pick a few.

I'm going to try Bierhaus on 3rd ave/44th st during my holiday, have your been here? They sell a beer/lager(not sure what one) HB that I liked when we visited the Munich Beer Festival a few years back, I'm going on November 12th so hopefully they'll still have some Oktoberfest beer left over.
    Cheers.

Yes, Brooklyn Lager isn't a normal Pilsner Style Lager, and it is what you bought at Tesco. If you can, try find beers by some other New York breweries. If you see it (and you probably will) Sixpoint Sweet Action would be a good one to try I think.

If you go to beer bars, just ask for samples and recommendations, most places are more than willing to help. Move away from your safe beers, try a Porter or a Stout (and ignore the fact they're dark). They've got great flavour.

East Village - head to DBA.

Not been to Bierhaus, but I rarely get above 14th Street these days. Ginger Man on 34th (I think) is a good place to visit, as is Blind Tiger on Bleecker Street. Oktoberfest - well, as it is already finished, I think you'll struggle (Oktoberfest isn't the month of October, it runs from 21st Sept - 6th Oct). You may still get some Pumpkin beers though.

I've seen this in a few menus I've been looking at, good idea.

Cheers, I've saved the above bars on google maps, Bleecker Street is another area I was wanting to check out.

What I was meaning with Oktoberfest beers left over is, the pub Bier Halle in Glasgow, they get Oktoberfest beers in around this time of year due to the brewers making it for Oktoberfest, Beers of Europe website is the same, but it doesn't last long!

Time to get back to the Itinerary
