Sorry if this has been covered before but I'm looking to go to NY next year around April/May time.

Has anyone used last minute deals for around that time of year before? I'm trying to weigh up whether it's better to get saving asap and book ahead or use my annual bonus from work for a last minute deal which I get at the end of March.

I'm most likely going to be traveling by myself if that affects things. Also I'll be going to the theatre a lot so I'd want a hotel (private room, not hostel) in that area which I know are expensive and may book up quickly?

NYC runs at a very high hotel occupancy rate, and honestly, in Jan/Feb are the only times that it's quieter a last minute booking can be of advantage.

However, saying that you can get a good deal on a hotel, and you pay on check-out, then do can book a hotel whenever you want. The flights may be a bit more expensive if it really is a last minute, but if it's 2 weeks in advance you should be OK.

Personally, I normally book everything around 6 weeks before I go, though for once I've already got a hotel booked for Feb, but will be cancelling it now decent rates have appeared for a better hotel.

Hiya, We fly into JFK on 1 st Sept and are staying for 3 nights, how feisable is a hotel in Seacaus? I know it's across a couple of rivers but it's the only place we can find at a reasonable price for 3 adults in a 2 room suite. We do want a 2 room suite. We don't need to get back to JFK.
I have looked at the airport train to Jamacia then a train to Port Authority then a bus, sounds straight forward enough. The bus stop is right outside the hotel.

personally i wouldnt . Too much messing . Up your budget and stay closer to town. Start emailing doifferent hotels and see what they can do you a break for. A twin often has two doubles .would that be a option .

We can have two doubles that's not a problem but sister -in-law is a very bad sleeper and she would like a seperate room to go to if she is unable to sleep and wakes early, which is does apperently about 4-30 am!!

What is your definition of a reasonable price?
Have you looked at any of the (frequently recommended) hotels in Long Island City?
Country Inn & Suites has a King studio ( living room with a sofa bed and a separate bedroom with a king bed) for your dates for $205 per night including breakfast

Thanks for that, but it's not what we need, we need two queen beds and a sofa bed in a seperate room.
A lot of the hotels in NY say they are 'suites' but in fact it's jsut one room with a sofa and fridge and maye a microwave.
If we could find what we need for that price I would book it no hesitation.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not just book two rooms? What exactly do you want from a 'suite'?

Holiday Inn, for example, IIRC, had 'suites' which was a room with two beds in, plus fridge and microwave and coffee machine (no kettle). However when we were in the Cosmopolitan in NYC with no such facilities, it wasn't a problem as tea / coffee / snacks / meals were on our doorstep to be taken back to our room when required.

Once we'd moved on to Wildwood (pause for slight shudder), a 'suite' was a bedroom with two double beds, living room with convertible bedsettee and almost completely equipped kitchen.
Signature removed for peace of mind

and I read that as an option rather than a necessity

Is two rooms not an option?

I know what you mean about 'suites', there does seem to be a very variable definition!

Two rooms would be possible but it will be twice the price lol.
We are in the USA for a month and so are trying to keep the price down.
We have this place booked (refundable) in secauas which has the 2 rooms and living room but everyone is saying it's too much hassle and I can do better nearer in but I can't find anything.
