  • ah, what a great thread. Was in NY last year and we went to a italian restaraunt called Ai Foiri - at the Setai Five Avenue Hotel on fifth ave.... was amazing. I love italian restaraunts in NY because i seem to so often see famous tv stars in them (though i am a sopranos nut :/ )

There are often good deals for Jan1st/Dec 31st flights many (foolish) people want to see the ball drop and pay mucho for dec 29/30/31st nights (foolish is my opinion only ) Deals will be around the end of Oct . Start finding hotels you fancy and emailingg them see what they have to offer. Quote other genuine prices to them

hi there budget apparently is £400 for the 3 girls(daughter and friends) for 3 nights , I've told them I don't think this is realistic , there are some budget hotels in their price range but reviews are not so good,

so 3 girls £400 between them for 3 nights Sunday 18th august until Wednesday 21st, they would like to stay as close to times square as the budget will allow ,

problem they are having apart from finding something in budget is most places wont allow them to book , as they are under 21 ?

( I have moved this post from another thread)

The key issue here is firstly not the price, but what hotels will let them actually check in. Also, you need a room for 3 people.

With a budget of only $168 per night before taxes, and needing 3 people in a room, it's just very tight.

Have they booked flights yet? normally a saturday night stay is needed for it to be cost effective...

Country Inn & Suites in Long Island City is coming up at $180 a night for a room with 2 queen beds in... you need to check they can check in though. I doubt you can find much cheaper than that, so you really have to forget about the Times Square requirement.

Most Hilton Hotels should let them check in, but that's about it really...

If they're currently working at Camp America, is theer someone there they can talk to about the problem re age restrictions? Someone may be able to make a suggestion or know of somewhere they could stay - they can't be the only girls to have ever face this problem, surely?

  • Ok, so we have our first trip to NYC booked for in October. I have read (most) of the anything and everything thread but I feel bogged down with information now :o

I have a couple of questions, we are a family of 4 with a suitcase each, taking the advice on MSE I will need either 2 taxi's or I can pre book with camel car services (thanks M4RKM) which would get us a mini van. The info asks me for flight no, which I have done and what time we need the cab for ..... so, do I book for the time our flight lands or what time I think we will be out of the airport for? I have no idea how long it would take for us to get out of the airport.

Secondly, we are flying with Virgin and we can check in online for our departure (at this point I should say we never ever go on holiday, autistic son doesn't like leaving home, but he asked to go to New York so we jumped at the chance) so, checking in online isn't going to be a problem. But how do I go about printing our boarding passes out?? Can we check in at the airport instead?

Thanks again for the information about what to see and do, we have booked TOTR instead on Empire State Building and I know to take the staten island ferry to see TSOL.

Ah fabulous! Others will be able to advise re cabs. There are usually 3 of us and we usually get a yellow cab from the airport.
You will be able to check in online and it should give you options for boarding passes to print at the airport.

Hope you enjoy planning your trip. What do you have planned to do whilst you are there?

Thank you for that! Good to know we have the option of printing them at the airport.

We plan to do Museum of Natural History (we are staying upper west side) and childrens museum. Then we want Central Park and the Dakota building (we're scousers). Times Square, Empire State Building (but we won't be going up). We will be going to TOTR. Then Financial district, so Wall St, Ground Zero and hopefully taking the staten island Ferry to see TSOL.

But both our kids want to go to Image Anime. They are both into a Japanese tv show called Kamen Rider and I reckon this shop will be visited a couple of times.

Personally, I think I'd find a way of printing boarding pass BEFORE getting to the airport, just in case ... and to reduce stress on the day. If you don't know anyone with a printer, and can't access one at work, some libraries offer pcs with printers attached.

But maybe that's just me: I have seen the printers at airports where you can print your boarding pass, but I just wouldn't want to have to find one, risk being able to understand and follow the instructions, etc etc etc.

I'd book the car for an hour after landing, but what you do is phone once you're out: there are dedicated phones for the major companies like Carmel.
