Lower East Side - hints and tips for us?

Booked a Hotel on Hotwire which is here. Happy with that, as it's our third trip and we wanted to be in a different location to where we've stayed before which was 34th Street once, Times Sq 2nd time. With 2 adults and 2 children and a relatively low budget we were a bit constrained. Did check out the Long Island hotels but they were even more expensive.

(sorry, just a little preamble about why we are at LES).

Aside from Katz Deli, what other don't miss Things should we look for? Already planning to have a good wander around SoHo, Greenwich Village again (love it there).

We've already done most of the standard NYC tourist things, so I'm looking for the less usual stuff.

We only have two nights, arrive 2pm from Las Vegas on the Thursday and leave 7pm on the Saturday. So want to cram in as much as possible.

    Thanks
    Karen

    Anyone?

If my question is too specific or non specific or even unanswerable, just tell me. I will move on :D

Hi I really like mooching around Union Square. Lots to see e.g street performers and a great food market at the weekend

I tend to visit Greenwich Village and Soho and just walk around and stumble on hidden treasures.

Do you fancy a boat tour around Manhattan? I recommend the NY River Taxi (I think that's the name) not expensive in my opinion and a great hop on hop off with fab views of Statue of Liberty and you also get to stop off at South Street Seaport which has shops too.

Have you visited the World Trade Center Memorial?

We've not been to Union Square, so will check that out - thanks :T

Totally agree with you on the Greenwich Village and SoHo approach.

We've done the Staten Island Ferry before and the seaport, as well as the WTC memorial (though not recently). Never been to LES before so was hoping for some hidden gems there :)
