Thanks for the quick reply. We'd like a sit down meal in the evenings, happy to make do at lunch. Happy to eat american/surf & turf or english style. (Or a Chinese one evening etc).
We haven't got as far as looking at hotels, but ideally somewhere central. :) (We stayed at Lexington Ave's W-Hotel when we stayed in 2003).

    Hi
    No problem :)

Its difficult to advise without knowing your budget

Have a look at Affinia hotels they have kitchenettes (there are other hotels but I haven't researched those)

Here a are a few of my favourite places to eat which I think are reasonable price wise: We didn't eat out every night. Sometimes got a takeaway and ate in the hotel - keeps costs down a bit.

The Cottage Irving Place - Chinese Food, great prices
Murray Hill Diner - Good for Breakfast but they do food all day
    Barking Dog
    Virgils - Times Square
Hard Rock Cafe! - Times Square

I am sure will be restaurants with buffets, just a case of doing research

Bored are we ? Good story went up TOTR in freezing conditions -17 but felt even worse. Had to go out to take pics, kid and Mrs Greenface wouldnt chance it. Only one bloke out there with a camera so braved it out . Passed nods to each other and noticed he was wearing a Liverpool bobble hat . Got into a small talk to find he lived about 4 miles from me and going to the same pub to watch the match that night. Another was Son B/day while we were away . We planned to go onto the times square web cam at 3-00 (NYC time) with friend and fambo at home watching . Told story to macys deli who gave us a cake and candles free of charge so we lit the candles and started singing happy birthday on the webcam to be joined by over 100 others in the street. good times

Well I am coming to NYC on Tuesday! But goin to Boston TOMORROW! :j

Don't have any questions apart from the one no-one answered. :rotfl:

Would it be worth taking a taxi from Penn Station to Affinia Shelburne on Lexington Ave (think its around 39st without looking) at 6pm? How bad is rush hour? Would it be just as quick to walk it?
(Not taking subway with bags at rush hour- I hate people who do that!! :rotfl: )

Less than half hour nice walk along 34th. Dont ask how bad rush hour is ask the drivers you pass while your walking.Have a great time. Cab is a option but a walk is a great way to get you bearings -Penn sta pass macys- spot ESB & head that way

Whether it is 'worth it' is quite subjective.

If you're completely knackered and/or travelling with more bags than you can comfortably manage and/or need a sit-down it might be worth it.

Fair enough. Just if it takes 30 mins to walk, and will take 20 mins in cab because of traffic I wouldn't bother!

And we are arriving from Boston, so would have had a sit down on the train journey! :)

According to Google Maps directions, (public transport) if you put in tuesday (28th May) at 18:00 it will take 14 or 15 mins by taxi, depending on the route taken.
Obviously this is not an exact science :D
