I'm not sure what is a good price, but safety is the most important thing. Why would you go with a cheap place, that advertises on groupon of all places, rather than somewhere that prides itself on its safety record and may be more expensive.
Personally, You've got opportunities to see Manhattan from up high with both Empire State, and Top of the Rock, You can take lovely cruises around Manhattan, which gives you great photo opportunities, and you'll be able to do all those for less than the price of a helicopter tour.

Because we're money savers here and if you can shave a tenner off a helicopter tour and only have to accept a 25% increase of danger that's got to be worth it.0 -
Each to their own I guess but I'm not flying 7 hours across the Atlantic so I can lie in bed. I can do that when I'm home thank you very much.
Totally is, However, I'm not flying 7 hours over the atlantic to have the same amount of sleep on my holiday as I do when I'm working. Bear in mind my holiday is rather different to yours, and I've "done" NYC, and don't need to rush around and see "tourist attractions".
Personally, sleeping in a basic hotel room, and to rush around and only get 4 - 5 hours sleep a night is not my idea of a holiday. I've been there, done that! Now I'm older, more mature, and can afford luxury, I will have that luxury. If I want to crack open that bottle of champagne that is in the mini bar, I will do, because I can. Why shouldn't I enjoy the little things in life?
My itinerary for my upcoming holiday is all around food and beer pairings, and discovering some great beers to take back to the UK. Craft Beer is having a huge explosion across here in the UK, and there is so much that the UK doesn't see. I don't do tourist holidays, which obviously you do, so there is going to be a difference in what you want. I've got 2 dinners to go to, a book launch, and got to see friends (who will be working during the day), so most things I'll be doing happen between 3pm and 4am.

there is moneysaving and there is stupidity though. I'm pretty sure going with a cheapo groupon deal on a knackered old helicopter is OBVIOUSLY moneysaving.0 -

It would be a boring world if we all liked and did the same things. I hope you get out of your trip exactly what you want, it sounds like you will. Have a great time.0 -

Wow, wasn't expecting to cause such a stir!
Are these NY helicopters really that unsafe?
About the Groupon deal: why does being on Groupon mean it'll be more unsafe? Have checked on Tripadvisor, and it has an average of 5 star reviews, is rated #27 of 373 activities in NY, and from what I can tell, is the highest ranked of all the helicopter tours.

I'm sure they are not that unsafe. I've been looking into heli tours myself. There was an accident involving this company though but it's harsh and probably libellous to suggest their aircraft are death traps.
You are perhaps best off asking for advice on the Tripadvisor forums. Unfortunately this thread seems to have become a "Do New York as I do, or not at all" thread.0 -
Its as dangerous as any other helicopter flight anywere else in the US its also not $84 its $99 (going by your sums)which is fairly pricey compared to other helicopter flights elsewhere in the US. never looked at Trip advisor for activities in NYC but im on my way there for a nosey . I would like it , never done it but i have never seen one over Manhattan properly just up & down the river and past SoL etc . Jellypopters are generally safe enjoy NYC:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

A little unfair . I think its more of a "In my opinion or experiance i would ...." No two people are the same and it would be hard to say "do this is great and you will love it" if you dont know the people asking. Even in the rare event when people give good information about them and their group .. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
