We only spend 4-5 hours in every 24 in the hotel, more of a crash pad so it seems daft to waste money on an expensive luxury hotel for so little time spent there.

It makes me laugh when people demand this and demand that from their hotels when going to New York, YOU SHOULDN'T BE IN YOUR HOTEL it's the best city in the world for crying out loud get out there.

    Agree 100% with this.
I went to NY for the first time last March and spent on average 4/5 hours in our [illegal] apartment. It had a bed and a shower and thats all we wanted.
Personally when I go somewhere new I want to see as much of the place as i can and not going to spend time in a hotel just because it cost me a lot of cash.

Each to their own though!

I've been to NYC many times, so my requirements are different now than 12 years ago when I started going. Yes, I get out and about but rarely in the morning. I stay out late, but I want comfort. I don't want a cheap bed in a bare room and nothing else. It a holiday not a prison sentence.

I do do NYC different to many people, I don't go shopping a lot, I do museums but take it as a relaxed pace. I don't want to end up heading back to UK more tired, so why not have something with a splash of luxury where I can have a lie in after a decent night bar hopping!

I also don't want to have only 5 hours sleep, it's a holiday not my normal working week!

How much did you pay for tickets and where will you be seated? I'm also planning on going to see the Knicks in March, waiting to see if prices come down.

Paid £95 each but I was fussy and wanted 1st row tickets on the 2nd level because they have a bit more leg room and individual TV screens in front of you - so I could have paid less for the same section.

I did want to go and see the Nets but they aren't playing at home during my stay.

I have most of the details for my trip planned out now! Whoop! :j I am really excited. I will be visiting Staten Island Mall as part of my trip and wondered if anyone had any ideas of the best (cheep) ways to get there. We will be going from West 35th Street.

If anyone has any ispirations I would be very greatful.

    Thanks
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

Can anyone please advise on airport transfers from Newark to lower manhattan?

2 of us and would prefer to be brought directly to the hotel, so am looking at the shuttle buses/vans. Any recommendations?

    Thanks

Usually I'd say take a taxi but Newark is slightly different. Take the monorail to the station and you can get a train straight into Penn. I don't know where your hotel is but you can get a taxi at Penn easy.

Each to their own I guess but I'm not flying 7 hours across the Atlantic so I can lie in bed. I can do that when I'm home thank you very much.

Would like to do the helicopter tour: is $84pp a good price? (Plus $10 heliport fee and $5pp fuel surcharge).

Not sure if I'd be able to buy it as its on the NYC groupon page... Presumably I'd just have to register on the US site?

No price is good for such a dangerous method of transport.
