Can anyone please advise on airport transfers from Newark to lower manhattan?

2 of us and would prefer to be brought directly to the hotel, so am looking at the shuttle buses/vans. Any recommendations?

    Thanks

Shuttle buses are not really recommended as you could end up staying on the airport for a few hours, while the bus fills up, and then riding around Manhattan for a few hours before getting dropped off.

Utilising the excellent public transport system is the way to go with this one, or booking a car service.

If you can tell me which hotel you're staying at, I'll be able to work out which is the best way on public transport to get there, and it's probably cheaper than a shuttle too, and will take less time

I'd take the train into Penn and grab a taxi from there.

Staying at Wyndham Garden Chinatown. Thanks for your help.

How much roughly would the train and then a taxi from Penn station cost?

Did this last year. Broke a leg and couldn't go - to cut a very long story short. Hence, bb69 why this has to be perfect! :)

Ahhh I am sure it will be perfect :). Could you book one that is grabbing you on a cancellable rate then keep looking? That way you know you will have something at a good price in case rooms are not available or prices increase.

This is where being precise is important. Chinatown isn't downtown, so the AirTrain and the PATH isn't the right combo. Head to the AirTrain and get off at the NJ Transit Station. Get a train into New York Penn Station. This is $15 each.

Once you're in Manhattan, get a taxi to your destination and that'll be around another $10-$15 dependent on traffic.

You could get a car service and this would be around $70 plus toll and tip. Get a quote from Dial 7 or Carmel.

Dial7 is currently $48, which is decent value for peace of mind. I've used them, and they are extremely reliable.

I have most of the details for my trip planned out now! Whoop! :j I am really excited. I will be visiting Staten Island Mall as part of my trip and wondered if anyone had any ideas of the best (cheep) ways to get there. We will be going from West 35th Street.

If anyone has any ispirations I would be very greatful.

    Thanks

A novel way to get to the Staten Island ferry would be to get the M34 express bus down 34th Street as far East as it goes and then get the East River Ferry down to Wall Street Pier (pier 11). Then it's just a short walk to the Staten Island ferry. The East River ferry timetable can be found via Google.

(There is a free shuttle bus that runs down part of 34th Street to the ferry terminal but the one we got was like you see being used to transport prisoners in the movies. There is an Express M34 bus that stops at fewer stops than the regular M34. You have to obtain a ticket at the bus stop before boarding. You can use a 7 day metro pass to get an Express bus ticket. The East River Ferry costs $4).

Express Buses are NOT part of your MetroCard, and cost $5.50 per ride on a pay per ride MetroCard, however, the M34 is a Select Bus not an Express Bus.
