I was wondering if you have any suggestions or advice on hotels around times square or central park ? I am going to NYC in Sept for 5 nights and have started to look into hotels.

Not looking for anything fancy as we don't plan on being in the hotel that often but looking for something clean and simple, around the lines of a holiday inn or something similiar.

Also planning on seeing Wicked on Broadway, when going to a show did you book in advance or hope for the best when you got to New York ?

I like to stay on the Upper West Side usually on or an avenue either side of Broadway between 79th and 90th. Nice area, quieter than downtown but still got life. You're on a direct subway to Times Square and taxis only cost $20 at most for the same trip if you're feeling lazy.

Check out the Belnord Hotel, I've stayed there in the past and was very happy with it. No frills, no breakfasts, no hotel bar but hey you're in New York, who wants to hang out at their hotel anyway.

If you're wanting to go to a show that sells out months in advance like Wicked, then you must book in advance, and you won't get discounted tickets. If you've set your heart on this show, and you know when you're going, book now or soon, or you could be disappointed.

Thank you, we don't have exact dates yet but when we do I'll make sure to book. My heart is well and truly set on Wicked

Can anyone tell me the best time to book a flight to New York please...this is for my 18 year old son....I have been looking daily for weeks and they fluctuate from just over £400 to nearly £700....he wants to go mid June and return end of July ....thanks

I doubt you'll get any better price than around £400. I'm heading in just under two weeks and paid £401 for my return flight from LHR. If you see that price, that is your target.

Booking around 3 months out is probably the best aim, but it isn't science.

Additionally, ensure that the hotel your son will stay at will let him check in, as many hotels in NYC only allow guests over the age of 21 to check in. There are very few legal hostels, so if you need some help with legal accommodation, please do ask.

When are you going? I'm out for St Patrick's Day, should be good.

My son has a girlfriend who lives in New York so his accommodation is sorted thanks....cant get much cheaper than free :j

This is the 5th Beer Week, and the 4th that I'll have gone to. The 1st one I went to, I actually stumbled upon it when I was in NYC, the next two, I specifically went out for. It's a great week of amazing beer, and events.
