Yes, NYC beer week lasts 10 days. There are a number of key events that are taking place over these 10 days.

    22nd Feb - Opening Night - http://nycbeerweekopeningnight.eventbrite.com/

    27th Feb - Brewers Choice - http://brewerschoice2013.eventbrite.com/

    2nd Mar - aPORKalypse Now - http://aporkalypse13.eventbrite.com/

    3rd Mar - Closing Night - La Birrerra @ Eataly - http://www.eataly.com/birreria

There are plenty more daily events, with an ever expanding list on http://www.nycbeerweek.com

My recommendation for the 26th Feb is the Dogfish Head Tap Takeover & ‘A-Hop-A-Eclipse Now’ Beer Dinner at Alewife in Long Island City.

    Hi

I got some great advice from people on this thread a few months ago, and am now looking to book a hotel so back for some more (hopefully!)

I will be travelling with my 'children', aged 23, 20, 16 and 15 at the time of travel. We would like a hotel or apartment (although I know most of these are illegal so thinking I may be best to avoid altogether?) that is in one of the more 'real' NY areas, rather than Times Square. I have been looking at the Soho, Tribeca, Greenwich Village areas and am considering the Cosmopolitan as I know this comes highly recommended by M4RKM. The Sohotel also seems quite good. However, the only thing that puts me off slightly is that both hotels have reviews that say they are really noisy at night - we are a family that likes our sleep so this would be a big drawback for us. Has anyone who's stayed at either hotel got any feedback on this? Or any other hotels in the above areas that they can suggest?

I can book the Cosmopolitan for just under £1100 for 4 nights so am hoping to stay around this price or less. I don't really want luxury, but would rather have something a little quirky and/or modern.

Thanks in advance for any advice. :D

Just coming back to add that a lot of hotels won't work for us because we are a party of 5 (basically all adults), so if they don't offer a suite that would sleep 5, we would need to book 2 separate rooms which would probably be too expensive. I've looked at so many over the past couple of weeks that my head is starting to spin, so would really appreciate some advice!

You don't say what combination your children are: we were a couple plus 3 boys (youngest 16) who stayed in two rooms at the Cosmo and that was fine. Everywhere we went two boys had to share a bed, which they didn't like the sound of to begin with, but they are BIG beds!

In one place we had two rooms with two big beds each: there they were given the choice of one of them coming in with us, but they declined because of DH's snoring!!!

Yes, it was noisy-ish, but not enough to stop us sleeping! Trick is to wear them out enough ... :rotfl:

  • In NYC from Friday lunch time March 1st to Wed evg March 6th.
Staying in Mill Broadway Times Sq
Booked 3day hop on hop off , tix to Top of the Rockafeller, trip to Woodbury and Tennis event BNP Showdown at MSG for the Monday 4th.
Travelling with my girlfriend and wondering if any suggestions? I've heard theres a great bar near the Rockerfeller with entrance like an apartment block ??

We're all female apart from the 16 year old (poor boy!) We hope to get a family room with two double beds and a sofa bed; my son will have the sofa bed and my daughters will share, am sure they wont mind.

Did you say elsewhere in NY with your sons Sue? If so, was there anywhere else you preferred more than the Cosmopolitan?

3 days HOHO? Why? It's not transportation and a guided tour. Do a loop, and use the subway. I'll be on the Subway on the 1st - 3rd, and will get around much quicker than you will be on your HOHO bus stuck in traffic, fixed to a single loop (maybe going in the wrong direction to what you really want to go!).

If you can change that bit, I would. Also, why Woodbury, you have taxes on everything, lower quality made for outlet malls clothing, and it's expensive. My opinions obviously.

No, we only stayed at the Cosmo in NYC. Apart from that we had a couple of suites at a Holiday Inn Somewhere in New Jersey, and a couple of 'interesting' suites in a place called Wildwood, described (accurately IMO) by another poster as 'like the armpit of Blackpool'.

I moved into 'hang the expense' mode at some point and went for two rooms / suites everywhere. Nearly came unstuck in Wildwood because they didn't want us to have one and the boys the other because they didn't usually allow under 21s to book rooms and eldest was only 20. Then they decided they wouldn't ask any questions so we wouldn't have to tell any lies.

The Holiday Inn was very Holiday Inn-ish. Not impressed by the breakfast there, but it did have a washing machine, which was extremely useful half way through the holiday!

I do like the Cosmopolitan and have stayed there many times. They're done some upgrading so it is a bit more boutique now than budget, and their prices have increased accordingly. What is your exact budget per night and exact dates?

Other places that are more affordable will be places in Long Island City.

    Maybe consider,

    http://www.tryphotels.com/en/tryp-times-square-south-nueva-york-hotel-united-states-of-america.html

not your prefered area but they do rooms for 2-8 people. I managed to book my stay on an offer for 40% off list price through zoo, so might be able to get it in budget and the reviews are good.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.
