  • Hi Jtr2803

I read your trip report with interest. Sounds like you had a great time. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza TS this year. What's it really like? We are a bit worried about the location, as in noise and how busy it might be. Also, brekky is not included, can you recommend place to eat?

Any tips on location and access to tourist sites and where to eat would be grately appreciated.

    TIA

Times Square IS busy. It is a magnet for tourists and is busy from around 7am - 4am. There are obviously ups and downs, but if you're afraid of crowds, then this isn't the location for you. There are a number of Squares in NYC, such as Herald Square and Union Square. All of these have great subway connections.

Hotels will advertise if they have a breakfast included, but because you can get some great affordable breakfasts by walking just a short distance from your hotel, then these are normally poor continental breakfasts, and really not worth the effort.

I'm unsure what you're asking about location and access to tourist sites - have you looked at a map so you know where you're going to be?

Food and Restaurants are so hard to recommend when you don't give us any information. What style of food do you want? What is your budget (and be precise). I could easily recommend great restaurants, but no point recommending a great BBQ joint if you're a vegetarian is there, or recommending a noodle place when you don't like that food. Give us some information, and not just "I like any food" because that isn't helpful either, as there are over twenty thousand (20,000) restaurants in NYC. I'd suggest you check out https://www.menupages.com just to get some idea of the scale, and don't just look near your hotel.

  • We've booked the Flatiron for 7 nights, reviews seem on the whole good, I know it cost us around £800 for the whole week, booking through thomas cook. Very central location. I'm very excited and scared never been to America before!

As for restaurants we keep reading about a place called eataly, but can't see an address for it.

  • ALERT!! BLONDE QUESTION !!!

On my e-ticket it says that we would depart JFK to London at 20:40PM.

Is this in UK time or American as I probably won't reset my watch to USA time.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply. We're not afraid of crowds, but were more concerned about noise levels. The hotel is free, so not costing us anything but definitely no breakfast. So, we were wondering how far we would have to go to get a good breakfast. In Florida we would generally go to a Denny's, IHop or Goldern Corral. If you have any tips for breakfast from our hotel that would be appreciated. I lure French toast and pancakes, but fruit as well.

Yes, we have looked at a map of where we are going t be, but Hubby can't really walk distances, so we were generally looking for advice about getting the attractions and how easy it would be.

Food recommendation we are pretty flexible, Hubby loves steaks and BBQ, would like to try maybe Thai or noodle restaurant, only thing is we would like to out of Times Square tourist area but not too far to eat. Budget wise $50 + tax/tips or so for dinner, not too much for breakfast. Would like at least one really nice meal, so suggestions for that would be great.

Any of your tips would be appreciated.

    Thanks
