Soooooooooo we have done the Helicopter trips a couple of times in NYC and once in Vegas and Bryce Canyon. We are still here to tell the tale. The NYC rides were with Liberty Helicopters and as I remember a little expensive for the time in the air.

But as my Dad used to say "When your numbers up" ..... but just keep your fingers crossed it's not the pilots number !!!!!!!

I'm sure they are not that unsafe. I've been looking into heli tours myself. There was an accident involving this company though but it's harsh and probably libellous to suggest their aircraft are death traps.

You are perhaps best off asking for advice on the Tripadvisor forums. Unfortunately this thread seems to have become a "Do New York as I do, or not at all" thread.

I thought the most recent accident involved Liberty Tours which happened a few days after we had taken a tour with them a few years back.

I only went in one because my daughter had set her heart on it and don't mind admitting it scared the life out of me (but then I am a wuss!). However, at the time we took our tour it seemed as though the company were very safety conscious. If someone had set their heart on doing a helicopter ride I would say go for it. Had I opened my eyes on ours, I am sure I would have seen some amazing views!!

I also agree with your last point. It does get rather tiresome on here every now and then. I have been many times to NY and I am not ashamed to say I still class myself as a tourist!

Did this last year. Broke a leg and couldn't go - to cut a very long story short. Hence, bb69 why this has to be perfect! :)
  • I have most of the details for my trip planned out now! Whoop! :j I am really excited. I will be visiting Staten Island Mall as part of my trip and wondered if anyone had any ideas of the best (cheep) ways to get there. We will be going from West 35th Street.

If anyone has any ispirations I would be very greatful.

    Thanks

At the moment I am thinking of getting the ferry and then taxi once over on Staten Island. There does seem to be some express bus service, but I cant figure it out going from Manhattan to St Island in the morning, it seems to be for the other way round. Are there any trains or anything else that I could consider?
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.
  • The ferry is free, cant get much cheaper than that.

Why not just get the S61 bus? It'll be included in your MetroCard. A taxi would be quite expensive.

Also, you do know that there are probably more shops in Manhattan than there are in the SI Mall? What specifically are you travelling all that way for?
