That price included the taxes and has good trip advisor reviews - so I guess it boils down to the area?
Did you not see the list that I posted? All those hotels are cheaper than what you listed. You said you were struggling with price, and I've found many cheaper hotels. the prices I've displayed exclude tax, but add on the tax, and convert to UK£ then they are cheaper.
Example - King & Grove New York - $193 Queen
$193 x 5 nights = $965
Add tax - $1109
Convert to UK = £715
Do you want luxury expensive, or luxury reasonably priced?

I want luxury reasonably priced
Is that a contradiction?
My latest front runners are.....
Shelburne Affinia
New York Palace
Marriott East Side0 -
I wouldn't class the Marriott or the Affinia as luxury, they're Tourist Class..0

Ok.....No the Affinia isn't luxury, agreed.
Those are my front runners. I would like luxury, but not at luxury prices.
Any reasonably prices luxury suggestions? midtown preferred.
Thanks0 -

That's the thing. If you think about what you want out of a hotel, rather than narrowing it down to an area, you've got so much more flexibility.
King & Grove New York is a great hotel, it is still in Midtown, and it is really well designed. Just don't go for the cheapest room.
Other than that, I'm not the right person to suggest. I much prefer my hotels below 14th street, as that is where all the fun stuff is. Restaurants, bars, evenings spent with friends, It is where you find locals..
Admittedly I'm staying in Brooklyn this time, but I normally alternate, so later this year when I hit NYC probably October, I'll be around Union Square...
Midtown is awesome and all, but the hotels are kinda mainstream. Maybe N Y Palace is your best bet...

Sorry that I am repeating my post but I could really do with some help attractions wise...
I am slowly making my way through the past 20 or so pages so my apologies if I am repeating myself!
I'm off to NYC 15th Feb for a week - staying at the Hotel Belleclaire, I've booked a standard room for 752.25 pre tax - which I didn't think was too bad?
We have been looking at several places - thank you booking.com for free cancellation, however I think that we are going to go with this hotel- unless anyone has any other suggestions?
Currently looking in to a Go Select Pass, I want to be a real tourist!
What attractions would people recommend?
Also I quite fancy going to a flea market - does anyone have any suggestions? I'm currently looking at going to the one in Hells Kitchen0 -

A Go Select Pass will enable you to get a discount from a selection of attractions, This is probably the easiest way to get a discount.
Where do you want to go? What do you like? I could reel off a long list of things to do in NYC that just doesn't interest you. Tell us about yourself.
As for a flea market, I'd link that in with a trip into Brooklyn - http://www.brooklynflea.com/markets/

I'm going back to New York for St Patrick's Day and got a Suite in Uptown (w80th and Broadway) for $500 for three nights. It's not a great place though luckily we only use the place to sleep so don't give a monkeys if it's not luxurious.
It can be done.
If your looking for a decent Irish bar near where your staying [i think i stayed in the same place last March], the try 'The Parlour' at 250 west 86th st. [search the parlour NY on the net]
Had a great time there last year with music on the Thursday night, friday night, all day/night saturday and during the day on the Sunday.
The food and atmosphere there is excellent and the owner was one of the nicest, most hospitible men we've ever met and really made us feel at home.
If you happen to go there say hi to John, from the Welsh boys [and 1 Irish!] from last Paddies day0 -
Hi
Thanks for getting back to me.
I’m 22 and going away with my mum (she's a young 60 something!), this is our first time visiting NY and it’s a trip that we have always wanted to take together. My mum is looking forward to visiting the typical attractions - Empire State Building, 9/11 memorial, Grand Central Station etc. I would have liked to go to Ellis Island and see the SoL but believe they are still closed due to Hurrican Sandy.
I had never heard of Top of the Rock before but after reading this thread I presume that it is worth a visit? Better than the ESB?
As I mentioned in my previous message I’d love to go to a flea market – the one in Brooklyn looks brilliant, if you have any other suggestions as what we should do in Brooklyn I’d love to know.
I also would like to walk along the highline.
We’re sort of open as to what else we do, I’m not much of a museum person however if we have the time or find ourselves near one I think that is something we would do that as and when. I’m keen to go to a cinema and maybe tie it in with a meal or drinks – I work in TV so would be interested in viewing any TV/film attractions/sites – however this isn’t a necessity. We do, of course, also want to shop.
As well as seeing the major tourist attractions and the “typical” NY landmarks I would love to visit any “hidden gems” or quirky neighbourhoods that people recommend as more often than not these can be more exciting and more interesting, we both love a good wander!
We’re not interested in doing the attractions like Ripley’s and Madame Tussauds as I could visit similar things in the UK.
I hope that this is enough information!0
