Buying a laptop and getting it past customs is simply a matter of making sure you throw every that makes it look new away.

Ditch the box. Copy any installation CDs onto the hard disk. Put some coffee stains on the lid etc etc etc. Maybe scuff up any labels on the bottom (it'll happen eventually anyway). Take an empty used case with you to bring it back in.

However, I am of the opinion that the savings in a US state with sales taxes are not enough to make it worth buying electronic goods.

This to me is advice . Dont preach & dont teach regardless what your personel beliefs on the tax system. I'm not white coming home from USA but i'm not green.

Anyone familiar with the Wyndham Garden Chinatown?

Also, how does this area feature as a base? I ask as I tend to stay near 44th street but fancy trying somewhere different.

BTW I appreciate this is a bit of a how long is a piece of string type question, but I'm kicking my heels for a few days and have been to NYC on quite a few previous occasions and fancy trying a different area......

Sorry if this has been asked before but as hotels in NY don't provide tea/coffee facilities, will a travel kettle work if I take one with me.

    Thanks

We use one in the US. Normally takes an age to boil though as generally are not true dual voltage.
  • JB ........ There are so many Deli's , Duane Reades , etc etc that you will easily pick up hot drink "to go" I wouldn't bother taking a travel kettle. we have just been and stayed in the Crowne Plaza TS and that had a Tassimo type coffee m/c which was very good, but we used bottled water. Check out "Au Bon Pan" they reasonable on price for drinks/food to go !!!

It is a newish hotel, but remember, anywhere near a subway stop will be a good base for a trip to NYC.

Thanks for responding. I'm not sure whether to risk changing from the Iroquois Hotel to this one tbh. The reviews are pretty mixed and I like a bit of comfort LOL!
