does anyone know if i will get a better $ rate if i changed some of my £s once i get to nyc?? Thanks0
-
Depends what the exchange rate is when you get there!
Generally, you're probably best exchanging your £'s to $'s before you go. You can use the ATM's in NYC but you may well pay charges each time you withdraw cash, so you won't want to take out small amounts every day.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Myself and two friends wish to go to New York later this year. Our timetable is very flexible and we're talking about a 14 - 16 day stay, any-time in the month of July or the first two weeks of August.
Currently we are looking at two departing airports: Belfast International and Dublin International.
This is the three cheapest flights I can find at the moment £527.00: £531.00: and £546
We have accommodation so that's not a worry. I'd have thought with six weeks to play with I could have come up with a better price, but it doesn't appear so. Still I can appreciate it is the high season.
As I was drafting this post I began to wonder if there is a 'best' day to travel: one when fares are lower than the rest of the week, like for example mid-week?
So any ideas where I might find a better deal?0 -
Have you checked the prices on kayak? They do have a 'pricewatch' and will email you if the prices go up or down, but generally, the tickets sell out quickly, so you do just need to keep watching. You could try skyscanner too.
I've never noticed the prices changing on a particular day of the week.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Has anyone here been on their own on a trip to New York? I've asked a couple of friends, but no-one can come, so looks like I'll be going on my own.
Is it just too sad to even contemplate, or do you think I'd still get a lot out of it?0 -
I think m4rkm usually goes on his own, and has a high old time! Especially on his birthday ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Excellent! What about a 35 year old single female, would general consensus be it was a safe thing to do or totally stupid?0
-
Safe, unless you are totally stupid ... which I'm sure you're not, since you're asking the question.
OK, I know I was with 'the boys' (DH and 3 sons aged from 16-21) but we all felt perfectly safe and were never hassled.
Obviously if you're in the habit of getting blind drunk while wearing high heels and not a lot else then the risks are greater, but it's a safe enough city!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Ha ha, I'm strictly a jeans and trainers kind of girl, so I should be fine!!0
