We did the train a few years ago from Boton to NYC. Lovely journey and we did it first class loads of room for cases and really big seats. But it didn't cost anywhere near £600 ! well at least my wife didn't tell me if it did ............... all that beer money ! I am sure we caught it at the back bay station as we were staying close by.

Thanks bleepandbooster for your reply train does sound a lovely journey. Just to explain £600+ was for 4ad and 1 child. Looking at prices again this morning can get with Amtrak cheapest $441 departing 7am sun returning 1.46pm Fri can upgrade to business class $971 noticed these are longer journey. the return day journey definately went cheaper than Saturday when looked where the prices were nearly $400+ for return in the afternoon

I have a feeling that there was a warning in our fridge not to move things you didn't intend to eat / drink, as you would be charged!

Lots of hotels like this all over the world. Sensors in the mini bar which means you get charged if something is moved. Saves the hotel having to get someone to check whats been used since its all computerised.

I guess it stops people emptying all the stuff out and putting their own stuff in (and then putting it back before the housekeeper comes every day).

Yup i knew about the sensors, which is a pain as you cant put your own stuff in the fridge.

Anyway i never touched the pesky thing but come check out time i was slapped with this bill, im sure i could have got some compensation for the stress they caused me! However after challenging the concierge to a bit of fistycuffs they decided to cancel the charge

I'm finding the opposite. (Unless it is just the hotels I'm staying in these days). They supply honesty bars. They know what they've put in the room, you can use the fridge whatever way you like, you fill in a form at the end of your stay, and tell the front desk staff what you've used during your stay.

This is much friendlier, and I've even seen notes in the hotel guides saying - feel free to use the mini bar fridge for your own needs.

As I said, maybe it is the hotels I'm staying at these days (below 14th Street, boutique, small, expensive), rather than the big chain hotels.

with over 20,000 restaurants in New York City, I think it's a long shot that someone on a board of about 10 regulars (maybe 15), would have eaten at a specific restaurant in New York. However, I've googled, and have found these well respected websites all have reviews of this restaurant.

Yeh. Seen that too. Much better.

A few years ago a lot of the nicer hotels in europe used this automatic sensor thing. PITA.

And every hotel in Europe has got toblerone (for about 10 times what it costs in tescos).

    Mortgage-free Glee!
We had 2 rooms and i was at the kids not to go at the mini bar for the 6 nights stay even buying bottled water to take to bed time. Chocolate not touched and beer wine left just in the right place. On the last night i said they could all have a choc bar & a drink of pop. On checking out i gave them a note of what we had the night before only to be told " dont worry the mini bar was free and included.
