Ok so many of you are going to tell me I'm mad for doing it... but hey.
My little brother is getting married in central park august 24th 2012 and I'm not going to miss it for the world.
However I will be taking my son who will be 14 months old by then. Please please please can anyone give me any suggestions for hotels, airlines I should be looking to book.
Also are there any must do's for a tiny tot?0 -
Its your little brother thats bloody mad not you . The first time I stayed in NYC we stayed at the westin in time square .Slightly more expensive than the normal average NYC hotels but not as much as the big names of new york but IMO well worth it . We had a young adult wheelchair user similar to you and your buggy . The westin gave big rooms and lifts with good location for walking between shops time sq & central park ( a nice 15 mins walk ) although NYC will be stinking hot in Aug (that is the start of our AUG b/h weekend so prices will be higher)If your brother cant get out of it before . He will love every minute of a NYC wedding. good luck:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

If the Times Square location isnt what your looking for there are a fair few better and cheaper hotels around UWS & UES closer to the park with good and intresting places to visit too. Your little one will be fine and too young to choose ( have i just said that) but will love the parks around NYC:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

No it isn't realistic. I paid £350 for a flight in March 2011, so with the recent increases in fuel costs, and increases in passenger duty, then getting a flight for that cost again will be a tough call. In a busier month like May, it makes it, in my opinion, impossible.
I think you'll be looking around the £425-£450 price range for a flight to NYC in May 2012.

So you think it will go up from what it is priced at at the moment (£416 on skyscanner)?
Its over a week prior to the start of half term, that isn't until beginning of June as they've moved it in line with the Queens Jubilee. Am hoping therefore that prices will be lower the week I am going as not school hols.0 -

NYC is rarely cheap, if it is a direct flight for £416 for the dates you want, and the route you want, and the airline you like, then I'd go with that. I doubt you'd get much cheaper.
Disclaimer: I'm not booking a flight, it's not my money. It could drop, however unlikely that sounds, and it could as easily go up. Book when you're happy with the price
Think about this though. I got £350 in March 2011, and £425 in September 2011, and currently prices for March 2012 are £399, then I seriously doubt mid/high season will be cheaper than a low season price (march is considered low season!)

£416 isnt bad imo it could go down about £17 as a tempter to book . but it could go up about £80 if the flight times are good and the flight is direct. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Never used them so cannot comment but travelzoo in their email today have a offer for a 4 night break at New Yorks Yotel in Jan & Feb for £550 ish a great deal if this is the price £580 for other dates in Jan & feb http://www.travelzoo.com/uk/holidays/americas-caribbean/-559-4-Night-New-York-City-Break-w-Breakfast-Flights-1138217/?utm_source=top20_uk&utm_medium=email with breakfast too wow !!! heres the linky-dinky
edit to say from heathrow ..
I can highly recommend Yotel! Stayed in June the week after it had just opened - paid £469 for 4 nights (booked through Quikbook) - & absolutely loved it! The travelzoo deal seems decent for that time of year?!
It is very, very cool & the whole place has a great atmosphere. The staff were great & the food in their restaurant was amazing! Loved the music in the lifts too, you'll see what I mean if you go there lol. The 'cabins' are quite small but modern & very well-designed & you've got to love the adjustable beds just for entertainment value (I'm easily amused:rotfl:).
The free breakfast is literally just muffins & coffee so we gave it a miss most days.
Might not appeal so much to people who prefer more traditional-type hotels. I would say it is more targeted at younger couples/groups of friends. My husband & I are late 20's.
Overall massive thumbs up for Yotel, would definitely stay again!!
Hope this is helpful0 -
Hi
I've just found this thread, and working my way through reading it.
We've decided to go to new york, never been before.
Want to go end of sept next year as it's hubbys birthday and we want to be there.
we want to fly direct from manchester.
I've found flights for last week sept with continental airline at a cost of £1200, i'm not sure on prices so is this dear, and should i wait a bit longer and see if the price comes down?
Also what temp would it roughly be end of sept,?
Is a week long enough?
Been searching for a decent hotel, and i'm getting quotes from £1200 - £1500 for a week.
thanks for reading and replying.0 -
I'm starting to get new york withdrawal symptoms despite only being there in June. We got engaged there this year, and decided that we would miss the usual annual trip in order to save up for a new house and wedding in 2012 and then 2013, so we agreed that we would have a honeymoon to NYC and Mexico in 2013.
The thing is... i really want to go back next year and trying to find a "too good to miss" price haha. Some alright prices (£785 all in for direct flight, 7 nights in the Roosevelt Hotel in March next year) but don't think it'll be good enough to convince the hubby to be0 -

Congrats on your engagement! Oooh that is a good deal. I'm sure you could squeeze in a weekend somewhere if he doesn't want to do a week0
