    Definitely goes to Chambers St

Looking at Google maps, putting in Cosmopolitan Hotel it's about a block away from the A train Chambers St - nearer the 1,2 & 3 line, but not far at all.

The A train for JFK is 1 block away from the Cosmopolitan Hotel, however, that station does not have an elevator, but it is the easiest.

Get out of the station at the North West Exit, and double back on yourself, take a right on Chambers Street, and walk down the block. Just before the Starbucks is the Cosmopolitan Hotel

    Hi all

Looking for valuable MSEr opinions on the following hotels please:

Ganesvoort (I like this but also for me the location is great)
    Intercontinental NY Barclay
    DoubleTree by Hilton

    Thanks

Gansevoort is by far the best IMO on that list. Also they do offer "social network" rates, so get yourself on twitter and get some discount.

Mark do you have recomenndations of bars and eateries around The Cosmopolitan? Mudville 9 and Reade Street Pub I know of but if you've got any others that would be great.

    Thanks.

Hiya - just after some insight from you clever people about flights to NYC. We're hoping to go to a friend's wedding in Philly, but NYC flights are always cheaper and it's easy enough to get there. Wedding is on May 5th 2012 and currently we are looking at flying out on May 3rd, back on 14th (will have a bit of a potter around the E coast after the wedding). This minimises leave while avoiding weekend flights which seem to push the price up! The other issue is that we would like to fly on the morning of the 14th as otherwise we arrive back early morning on the 15th and either have to take another day off (me) or go straight into work from the airport (DH...). We could take one more day leave if it really pulled prices down.

We want to fly direct from any london airport. Currently best prices I can find are around the £410 mark searching fly.com and a few others. The prices came down a few weeks ago from about £500ish.

Soo... million dollar question, When's the best time to book? We're not committed to going to the wedding, if we can't get flights below £450 each we won't go... but I do really want to go!! I don't know whether to book now so we come in under budget and are committed to going, or wait and hope they come down further, but risk them going higher and not being able to go at all... I would think we'd need to have booked by 2 months before at the latest, in order to concretely respond to the wedding invitation in good time.

    what do you think?!

ETA - just read a separate really useful NYC post and seems to be a good idea to wait until after Christmas. Of course any other advice gratefully received & digested!

I'm the same morg-monster, going on a cruise leaving from NYC at end of May, and have been watching flights ever since they first came out. They were over £500 when I first started looking, but have come down to around £407 now.

I'm hoping there are sales after christmas, as really want to hold out for better prices than this. Not sure what prices are like for May, its the week before half term so that shouldn't impact on it.

    Hi
I have been to the View for a glass of champers only and thought it was great for a drink, especially as we had a wndow seat and you can watch NYC sparkle away at night. Also had cocktails at the Rainbow Room (top of Rockafeller) which was great with views of the ESB and a pianist playing. Finally, there is a fantastic roof top outdoor bar at 530 Fifth Avenue. You can almost touch the ESB from the chairs and blankets and dressing gowns are provided so you are not chilly. This was a highlight of the trip for my sister and I - can recommend the hot cherry cider! Enjoy.
PS - have eaten at the Boathouse but indoors which is cheaper, more basic food, no waiter service and with no need to book but, putting aside the windows, is the same view. X

Are you referring to a different Boat House to the one in Central Park? As didn't think you'd get a sky view there?

I like the sound of 530 Fifth Avenue but can't seem to find anything about it - does it have a name other than the address please?

Edit: I've found a rooftop bar at 230 Fifth Avenue - is it that one? It talks about fleeces and blankets - looks fab!

Re. flights, conventional thinking is 3 months before you go, is the best time for flights, but obviously look out for special offers etc. I'd have thought there'd be some sales after Xmas.

Thanks Josie. It will be a case of holding my nerve I think! Scary, as can cancel cruise up to 75 days beforehand and get full refund but after that I'm committed, so will need to get flights whatever the cost!

If I could get them for £350 I would be over the moon, no idea if that is realistic for end of May time?

That's the one! We went around 6pm one evening. The building is very unassuming and you just get the lift right to the top. Drinks were pricey (although usual for posh NYC) around $22 for 2 cocktails but you can have a beer etc. Seemed to attract an after works crowd when we were there.

The boathouse I referred to is the Express Cafe which is in the boathouse but the cafe part. You can still sit inside and eat (sandwiches, pots of chilli, wine and beer available) but it is casual and no need to book which suited us more. You are not directly in front of the lake etc but you can see it still through the posh folk with waiter service and white tablecloths - depends what you want. I preferred a casual walk round the park and a budget lunch and splurge the rest on tea time cocktails!
