weathers been fine all week, apart from some seriously heavy rain fall on thursday afternoon oddly at the same time as we were passing tiffanys so we had to go in and buy something, doh!!
think ny'ers will take it in their stride they seem to be use to weather extremes.

Finally booked a trip to new york and really looking forward to it. We're heading over 13th-17th October (Thurs-Mon)
I was hoping to see either a baseball game or basketball when there but can't find any info regarding tickets for this dates. seems like the Knicks are playing away that weekend but can't see anything for the Yankees.
Are there any other teams worth seeing? and how much do tickets cost?0 -
Hi Everyone,
My word, there's a mine (or should that be a minefield?) of information on this thread and all the others it links to. I've been reading all this stuff for about two weeks now and I've picked up loads of tips. I still have a few questions I haven't seen asked/answered before and I hope someone may be able to help.
My wife and I are hoping to go for our first ever American trip at Easter, bringing our teenagers with us, 16yo boy and 14yo girl. Our budget won't stretch to two hotel rooms, so we need one of those family rooms. But everything we've seen seems to have two double beds, when we'd really prefer a double and two singles. Our kids are NOT keen on sharing at their age!! (And who can blame them?)
So, do you know of any reasonably priced hotels that have such rooms? I just can't find any but maybe it's a terminology thing. My gut feeling at the moment is that we want to save money by staying outside Manhattan, possibly in the Secaucus area of New Jersey which seems pretty accessible to Manhattan in terms of time and cost. But I'm certainly open to suggestion.
Second thing: Can someone explain the "three month rule" to me? I *know* I've seen it somewhere but I've opened so many threads and windows and I can't find it now. It's something about that being the right amount of time to book a flight before you fly? So if we're hoping to go in early April, we should find the cheapest prices if we wait till around end Dec/early Jan? Have I understood that correctly?
LOTS of planning still to do (so expect to hear more from me!!) but it's a good seven months away so with any luck there's time to learn a lot.
Thanks everyone.0 -

So, in NYC we had a room with a double bed, and they had a room with two double beds. I took an inflatable / roll up mat and a sheet sleeping bag, and one of them was welcome to sleep on the floor if they preferred that to sharing a bed. They didn't.
In Wildwood, not realising how they were set up, I'd booked two suites, so they were in one and we were in the other. But actually we could have jammed into one, because that had two double beds in the bedroom, and a bed settee in the lounge. But Wildwood is a whole other story: your kids would love it, you might not ...
Worth bearing in mind that the beds tend to be Queen (at least) rather than normal UK double, so you could put a barrier of pillows down the middle if that would help. We had a couple of nights in a Holiday Inn, and if we'd been really mean we could have squeezed all 3 of them into one double bed.As it was, we offered to have one in with us so everyone (apart from me and DH) got their own bed, and they declined that as well. Something to do with DH's snoring, I believe! :rotfl:

Why not book a double queen suite? So you get two beds in the bedroom and the sofa bed in the lounge for the adults?
Radio City Apartments do 5 person suites, so there are two bedrooms and a sofa bed in the lounge. ...
Belleclaire does a large room which has a bedroom with a king, and a bedroom with two doubles in aswell..
Embassy Suites does a double queen suite, as does the Doubletree Guest Suites Times square.
Hope this helps.0 -
It's a 'rule of thumb' from M4RKM so you might find it if you search for his posts in this thread ...
Yeah, It's a rule of thumb that I've said no longer applies, (and I think never applies to holiday periods, such as Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving etc etc).
Things are changing so quickly, prices are rising so quickly, it's getting more and more of a struggle to get good prices to get to NYC.
I'm also a huge non believer in airline ticket "sales" and it's just a marketing ploy. I've always paid less with other airlines than these "sale" prices. Don't believe everything you see written.

The very word "suite" sounds expensive:eek:, but I'll definitely look into it.
Thanks!0
