What's your opinion on the overall ball park price Mark?
If around £1600 is the best deal I'll get for five nights (£1500 for four) it's not worth me waiting around really is it? I might as well just get it booked.
Unless you know of a great cheaper hotel? I only used the Affinia example as it was the one on the teletext offer and the hotel looked really good.
If those in the know reckons this is the best I'll get, then I'll crack on.0 -

You can check the prices on the Cosmopolitan Hotel, but it is a more basic hotel than the Affinia. Might be worth going through the list on quikbook.com the Affinia Manhattan is on there, a few dollars more than what's on their own website, but it gives you an idea of what deals are around.
Is $1600 good? Yeah, i'd say so, but only you can convince yourself of it. The flight prices are good, I've just paid £425 direct for September to NYC from MAN, and Aer Lingus were more than that anyway, so to get a flight before christmas for £400 is a bargain. I think I'd be more confident in saying BOOK IT NOW BOOK IT NOW, if it were a cancellable rate on the hotel, just in case things change, and prices drop. This is the main reason I'm not keen on packages, it limits you and locks you in. I know some people love them, but I know in the past 3 years, I've rebooked my hotel twice, due to prices dropping closer to the time on the hotels.
Hope you make the right choice for yourself. that's the main thing.

Cancellable rate? So booking it separate such as with hotel.com and ensuring it says in bold 'cancellable' may be the way to go then. Don't think there's much difference between the package rate and individual rate is there?
Any experience in using priceline or hotwire? If I get the flights booked and get the location and standard of hotel sorted, Priceline in theory appears a winner.....or am I missing something?0 -
Priceline is ok, but I'm not a huge fan. They use brand name hotels, which, in essence means you get a hotel that looks like every other hotel you've ever stayed in. I'm not keen on that. I like my hotels with a bit of style and individuality.
Tonight, (and for the best part of the next 3 weeks), i'm staying in hotels for my job. Holiday Inn Express, Travelodge, etc etc, Cheap basic hotels, but it's just a bed for the night. But they all look the damn same. So when I go on holiday, I want something individual, something stylish, even if i'm not there a lot, I want the nice things in life.
Priceline only guarantee a basic room with a bed in it. (for up to 2 people). If you're booking yourself, you can choose a better class of hotel room, which give you more features. You can't do that with PL or HW. Also, the areas they use are somewhat ambiguous, and you could end up somewhere you don't want to be.

Thanks Mark, Looks like Anything Goes and the Mormon one are well rated. Waiting for draw for US Open as want to catch Andy Murray if possible.0 -
Mark,
Probably my last question before booking (as Aer Lingus have dropped flights below £400!) have you (or anyone else!) any opinions or knowledge on the Distrikt Hotel New York City. This has quickly become my preferred choice overtaking Affinia. It's ranking of 6 on trip advisor has really tempted me!
Cheers,

Never stopped there, but it was somewhere we considered when we went last year. It looks very lovely indeed.0

JFK is a cheaper airport to get into Manhattan when compared to Newark, also, you clear immigration in DUB, so that saves up to an hour at JFK anyway.
been loosely following this thread... just wondered if i'd read this right? you can clear US immigration in Dublin??
(sorry if i've completely mis-read that)0 -

Just as a quick addition to this ... last night I was searching for broadway theatre tickets and tried through broadwaybox.com, broadway.com and a couple of others. Broadwaybox came out cheapest, but was still pretty expensive. The missus asked to see some pictures of the show before we booked and so I went to the official show site ... thought I'd have a look at how much I was saving on their ticket prices ... thus I was shocked to find show tickets from them (through ticketmaster) were far cheaper than the other sites and I got to pick the exact seats I wanted to sit in! :T
May just be a one-off thing and I was lucky!?
TLDR;
Check the official show/sport sites and always shop around!"The most desirable trait of the internet is the ability to attribute quotes to anyone."
