    Hello All,

I am after some advice about going to New York. If I outline my plans, hopefully some kind soul will relay their superior knowledge and make booking the thing a bit simpler. It's for my 30th birthday and will be my partners first time in NYC.

Dates: Tuesday 13th December to Saturday 17th December 2011.
Four nights in total. Could stretch to 5 if needed and if flights are cheaper, but definitely want to return on the 17th as my birthday is the 16th. An early day flight on the 13th and later one on the 17th is preferably to give 4 full days would be best.

Accommodation: A very nice 3 or nice 4 star would be good due to the occasion. And a central location (in Manhattan) is essential really as plan on doing the usual tourist stuff and don't want to spend half the trip travelling in and out.

Reference: I have seen a deal on Teletext for flights and 5 nights room only (I know I want 4, but the offer is for 5) at Affinia Manhattan is £765pp. This looks an awesome hotel and the type I would like for this trip. I was close to booking it but then I remembered prices like to go up when you you ring and speak to them. £765pp is probably about our top flight + accomodation budget really, and I mean really top, unless somebody manages to acquire a penthouse suite in the Hilton for £900pp, then I'll stretch to that!!

Points: I do use cashback sites and haven't had much problems with them in the past so am willing to build the post cashback price into the budget costs. Also, what are peoples opinions on Priceline and Hotwire? I have seen a huge guide to using them, but looks quite tricky. I'm always willing to use them though if they give good deals for NYC.

Anyway, I think that is everything. Many thanks in advance to people giving this consideration, all responses appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Lee

Well I guess Mr M is'nt always right.

    Affinia Manhattan flying BA

13/12 to 17/12 £750 per person with expedia
14/12 to 18/12 £779 per person with expedia

also dont forget 3.5% quidco and nectar points too, however this is for 4 nights not 5 as quoted by teletext, 5 nights is £856
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right

    Thanks.

I should have clarified, when I say I want to come back on the 17th, this should have been at the earliest the 17th. I can come back after, so the 18th or 19th if cheaper. My initial post just wanted to make clear that I don't want to come back before the 17th.

Also, is there a guide price for when I should bite somebody's hand off for flights? I am awaiting a couple of callbacks over the next couple of days from flight firms you see. If they come back with £350.....£400, should I book them there and then? I'm concerned that as my dates hit the Xmas period the flights may jump in price. I have struggled in finding any good flight prices, but to be honest am not too sure what a good price for NYC.

Mark says that if you're booking a flight alone you get a better price if you're staying saturday night. Packages are a law unto themselves.

14/12 to 18/12 £779 per person with expedia

Cheaper to book separately if you want to include a Saturday night though.

    £1558 for a holiday 14/12 - 18/12

£404 for a flight per person (£808) (Delta)
    Hotel £694 (affinia.com)

    Total £1502

    *grins*

By the way. £404 for a return flight to NYC from LHR is a bargain for December. I've paid more than that last September.

Ah, something I've just noticed I missed.

We would be looking at flying from North West airport, preferably from Manchester.

Is £1500 for four nights a really good deal then and worth jumping on to book?

Cos if so, assuming teletext deal goes no higher than £800pp for five nights, it sounds like a steal and something I should book before prices shoot up or the deal disappears. Or am I missing something?

    Cheers.

Hi all, Looking for some advice on the above. I'm in NYC with my Girlfriend from 26/8 to 5/9 and am looking for some recommendations on buying tickets for theatre, gigs and the tennis and also a website with reviews of the current broadway shows.

Also looking to go out of town for a few days and was toying with the Hamptons as girlfriend fancies a bit of surfing.

    Any advice appreciated.:)

Manchester, Manchester, Manchester. (no, I've no idea why I just typed it three times either).
Sticking with the dates already, the hotel won't change in price.

    Hotel £694 (affinia.com)
    Flights

£445 with Continental heading into EWR in New Jersey.
£403 with Aer Lingus changing at Dublin into JFK.

JFK is a cheaper airport to get into Manhattan when compared to Newark, also, you clear immigration in DUB, so that saves up to an hour at JFK anyway.
You're saving £2 on airfare flying from MAN with Aer Lingus... woohooo! :)
