Everything & Anything New York City

No offence to some people :embarasse But can think of 1001 better things to do in New York than to go shopping. I never did get the concept of going to New York *just* to go shoppiing, for example long Christmas shopping weekends (obviously fitting in shops between doing other things is different).
I can see me going back even after this visit to see everything I want to see
I agree - wouldn't go for *just* shopping!! There's so many things I love to do in the city that doesn't involve shopping! I can't wait to go and explore the different neighbourhoods and restaurants and meet new different people... only 3 weeks to go0 -
I have just booked Staybridge Suites for 3 nights in january, it has free cancellation and was £364 for 3 nights, we have got the queen studio with view, and breakfast.
Does this sound ok? The reviews are pretty good. Money doesnt come off the card does it until we pay at the hotel?0 -

That works out to be about $170 a night before taxes, and for January, not the best bargain, and I'd think that prices will drop nearer to the time. Keep an eye out from October onwards, and you should be able to do better IMO.

Hi all, was planning to go in april ( 3 of us) but got email from Travelbag today advertising Holiday Inn Midtown ( 57th st) for £669 and Wellington (7th Av at 55th) for £589. All p person inc flights for 5 nights in MARCH. Wellington goes up to £1449 in april, so a huge hike there. I am now considering going in march, obviously, but is the weather going to be a drawback? I've read its likely to be rainy & possibly no more than 10 C. Now, I dont like it hot & humid, but I was thinking of not having to wrap up too much. Any experiences? Please share!
hi i went this year in march and the weather changed everyday i was there, first day or 2 it was chilly but not freezing and it rained once in the morning then it was fine it was coldest when i did top of the rock at night time because its high up it gets very windy and cold so take a hat and gloves
on the 17th for st patricks day it was soooo hot and sunny
so best to prepare to be cold and warm, layers are the key0 -
I know all about New York and it's boroughs and sizes - I did a full market research report on New York City....I know all the boroughs, their populations, their social issues, government - a lot of stuff......I was saying that I've done a lot in new york but stating the places in the city where I maybe haven't explored as much ......
Prob just worded it wrong
Anyway - thanks for the suggestions - she will definitely love SoHo then - we went to Bloomingdales the first time we were in New York...she loved it so I'll def take her back there.. and I'd definitely love to go to Sephora...Thanks for the heads up about the basketball! Unfortunately mum doesn't want to go to a baseball game - though I might take the trip myself...
going to a baseball game is quite an experience but if your going alone be prepared to be there for a few hours - i went to a redsox game in boston, bought tickets at 5pm and went into the grounds and game didnt finish until after 10pm0 -
Whoo whooo!!! I've now just about read every post on this thread. Some brilliant advice I've picked up :T for everybody's input like Mark's and Phatbear's.
I don't go until March. However I have my copy of the Rough Guide to New York and I am systematically going through it to see what I want to see. I am going for 10 days (with a trip to Atlantic City and Boston chucked in) and I have found tons and tons I want to see. I am interested in the history. Done Macy's and Bloomingdale's before, so won't be doing much shopping. I know it sounds silly but I want to go to Bowling Green and see the original railings. Will give SoL a miss this time but always love Ellis Island. I would also like to make it up to Pelham Bay Park weather permitting. Done ESB so I think TOTR will be the order of the day. Also want to do Musuem of Natural History
I'm sure I will think of more things as I go along.
So here's the thing, has anybody else visited what might be considered obscure museums?
hey i dont want to put you off doing anything you want to do but just my own personal opionion as i went to the museum of natural history while i was in new york and all i would say is if you've been to the one in london the one in new york is pretty much the same tbh and at least the one in london is free to get into
sorry if that sounds negative but that was just my personal opinion after visiting myself0 -

After being dragged along to a few yankees games I have noticed that very few people actually stay for the duration of the game, i've noted that a lot of people turn up hours into the game or leave hours before, I managed to notice this as I was trying to keep myself from slipping into a coma as I find baseball mind numblingly boring, but Mrs PB loves it, alas.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0
