When I booked mine I had to wait a couple of days to get confirmation for both the hotel and airline- i was a bit worried because I just assumed it was all done automatically but it was fine and was the price they quoted.0

Thanks, just wish some of the sites were a little clearer.0

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of these websites. I am unable to find in their Q & A if you have to pay CC charges which of course would put the prices up a bit! also would anyone know if they all use e tickets (some of them mention paperwork will be sent out! which I don`t want - would like to book and then everything I need is on the screen to print)
Continental is £1693 but the cheapest Net flights / Last min is £1632 which would pay big chunk of our taxi fees. Also whilst Continental is the most expensive would I be best booking with them just incase of any problems.
I`d appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Many thanks
I know of no airline that flys transatlantically that uses paper tickets, so I've got no idea what they're on about there. CO, DL, KLM, and AA all use e-tickets and have done for years. Booking direct with the airline is always the best option, if things go wrong, and there are delays, they cannot fob you off with having to speak to a company in the UK etc etc. Is it worth £20 each? I think so.
I know lastminute charge for a credit card...Credit cards may be subject to a surcharge, this will be specified at the time of booking as this is usually based on a percentage of the booking cost.

Booked with Expedia, got a better price than was showing last night. No card charges and etickets received within minutes. Thanks all.0

Hi all, looking for some advice on where to stay when me and my boyf go to New York in December; staying 5 nights from 14th to the 19th.
I do have an open mind about where/area, as long as we have easy access to Manhattan. Our budget is up to £800 for the 5 nights, this must include local taxes though.
Any suggestions or recommendations greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
*the mathematics bit*
£800 for 5 nights including taxes is approximately $222 per night before tax. Now, without what you want to do, or what you like, I'm going to recommend the generic recommendations. Now if you want nightlife, and good restaurants, some hotels will be better than others. If you're going to the theater each night, then the Theatre District is a great idea. Etc Etc.
Without further babbling, here are some good suggestions to start the ball rolling.
Country Inn Suites in Long Island City is available for the bargain price of $130 a night. A short hop into Manhattan, but you're saving a ton of money.
Eastgate Tower have a prepaid rate on Quikbook (you pay now, and the room is non refunable) at $197 a night, and you get a full kitchen. Dated decor, and a bit of a trek to the nearest subway station.
The brand new Four Points by Sheraton in Long Island City is available for $218.06 inc tax per night.
The Sohotel on the edge of Chinatown in Manhattan is available at $173 before tax on quikbook.
And finally, my personal favourite the Hotel Le Jolie in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is available at $177 for a queen prepaid rate, or $217 pay on check out, but with a city view!!!!!
All are easy access to Manhattan, if not in, but the Eastgate Tower is probably the worst location IMO, as there isn't much around it, (corporates, housing), and no subway really close by, unlike the others. I love Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and it really is a great area if you're around my age...
Hope that helps

Whoo whooo!!! I've now just about read every post on this thread. Some brilliant advice I've picked up :T for everybody's input like Mark's and Phatbear's.
I don't go until March. However I have my copy of the Rough Guide to New York and I am systematically going through it to see what I want to see. I am going for 10 days (with a trip to Atlantic City and Boston chucked in) and I have found tons and tons I want to see. I am interested in the history. Done Macy's and Bloomingdale's before, so won't be doing much shopping. I know it sounds silly but I want to go to Bowling Green and see the original railings. Will give SoL a miss this time but always love Ellis Island. I would also like to make it up to Pelham Bay Park weather permitting. Done ESB so I think TOTR will be the order of the day. Also want to do Musuem of Natural History
I'm sure I will think of more things as I go along.
So here's the thing, has anybody else visited what might be considered obscure museums?0 -
http://museumofsex.com/ dont take your mum !! Havent been myself . hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

We have been to both the Police Museum and the Fire Museum, not that obscure, but not that many people seem to go. We found them both very interesting.( We chatted to a lovely retired Firefighter in the Fire Museum, which was a bonus for us).
We go in October and have on this next trip decided to go to The Museum of Sex and Ripley's Believe it or not, I will do a report when I get back so if you are interested, watch this space!.0 -
Obscure? How obscure.
I've done the City Reliquary in Williamsburg, which is a permanent display of New York City artifacts, I've done the NYC Transit Museum, and the most interesting of all, was the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum.
Give us your tastes, and I'm sure we can find even more obscure museums for you to go to.
