Hi all, was planning to go in april ( 3 of us) but got email from Travelbag today advertising Holiday Inn Midtown ( 57th st) for £669 and Wellington (7th Av at 55th) for £589. All p person inc flights for 5 nights in MARCH. Wellington goes up to £1449 in april, so a huge hike there. I am now considering going in march, obviously, but is the weather going to be a drawback? I've read its likely to be rainy & possibly no more than 10 C. Now, I dont like it hot & humid, but I was thinking of not having to wrap up too much. Any experiences? Please share!

I'm flying in March. In reality though, how much of your time do you plan to spend out of doors? Statistically it actually rains more in April than March. I'm flying mid to late March. I expect that I will spend 60 to 70% of my time indoors so I am not too worried about the weather. I noticed the price hikes too, so booking it as close to April as possible but early enough to avoid price hikes.

Hi there I wonder if anyone could help. We are planning on having a 3 night break to new york 10th or 11th of October this year. We want the cheapest hotel or even a hostel maybe as it'll just be a base for us. As long as it's clean and safe, thats fine by us (oh and a double bed!). The problem is, we've never been abroad before and haven't a clue where to start lol!!

Any ideas on where to start? Huge thanks for reading!

in hotels, the default is a double, probably a Queen.

  • Oh yes i'd realised that but when we looked at hostels some were bunkbeds...and I don't fancy spending my 30th birthday and wedding anniversary in a bunkbed lol! any suggestions on how I should start looking?do you think it is better to book flights and hotels/hostels separately or together?

well i guess i hadn't thought of bunkbeds as part of the adventure ;)

any suggestions on hostels to stay in? it's all about the exploring for us, so not too worried where we stay as long as it's easily accesible to the main touristy places and clean. don't even mind sharing a bathroom to be honest, but would rather have some recommendations for places people have stayed before.

There are very few legal hostels in NYC. Thankfully, a lot of the illegal ones have got closed down. Hostelling International is good, though a little out of the way - hihostels.com/dba/hostels-HI---New-York-City…

One other thing you could consider, is to get a room in someones apartment. Bear in mind if you get a whole apartment, they're illegal, but renting out someones spare bedroom isn't. Click Private Room on https://www.airbnb.com and you should find something for under $100 a night.
