Evening all,
I have been lurking on this thread for a while, and am now in need of your help....
I am flying to NY on Monday evening. We were due to stay with a friend of ours that lives in NY, but due to various reasons, we've just found out we can't stay there.
So, am panicking a little now as flights are all booked. Can anyone recommend the best place to look/strategy for last minute hotel deals?
Many thanks for your help in advance- it's really the last thing we expected/needed before visiting NY!!0 -
Prices can vary day by day, week by week. As there are 2 fashion weeks in NYC every year, it is hard to guess which one you're going to. If you're going in Feb, it's going to be cheaper than September. http://nycfashioninfo.com/fashion-week.aspx
What prices are you seeing now for accommodation?
hi going in feb but havent booked yet, keep getting told by everyone to book with virgin, but have so much choice just have no idea where to stay , want something that is suitable for me and my 18 year old daughter that is clean but not to posh if that makes sense ,:)0 -

Unfortunately, HotelConxions hasn't worked in a while. Quikbook is probably the best these days.Evening all,

What are your exact dates, and also what is your budget. How many people and how many beds. I'm more than willing to search around and recommend places that I know or have heard of.
Travelzoo is a good place to start, but chuck me over that info, and I'm really more than willing to help and you'll be still going to the greatest city in the world on Monday.
Cheers

Thanks so much for your help.
We arrive late Monday evening and fly home on Thursday. There's 2 of us and 2 single or a double bed is fine.
Budget wise, we're looking to spend £150 max each. Not sure how feasible this is, so any advice would be brilliant.
I am searching now but it's so difficult to know where to choose with so much choice.
Thanks again, it's really appreciated.0 -
OK. I look at a lot of sites that are based in the US. The better bargains are normally on there for some reason. Now, I'm kinda confused by your budget. Are you looking for 3 nights in NYC for £300 (therefore £100 per night) because you're going to be very hard pushed to find that in a hotel. ($140 per night before tax), but here are some options anyway.
Even the board favourite Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca is coming up at $187 per night for a room, so that's way over budget when you factor in 15%ish in taxes.
Over in Long Island City (a short hop into Manhattan on the Subway) you've got a prepaid rate of $161.50 before tax, and this is the cheap area of town.
Even a room, in someones apartment on airbnb, I've hit your budget straight away. You have this place - http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/82885 - which is $130 a night plus a bit of fees.
Leaving probably the one in your budget til last - http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/39282#calendar - $90 a night ($80 plus $10 for the second person), you get to stay in hip Williamsburg, a short hop on the subway into Manhattan. Williamsburg is uber cool though, and plenty of restaurants and bars for the evening, so you're always close to where you're staying. This place does have a couple of cats though, and bear in mind that you're sleeping in a room in someones apartment, not a hotel. The benefits are that you do get use of a full kitchen, and you get to meet some locals too, rather than other tourist. I think this is your best bet, with your limited budget.
I'd get registered on airbnb and secure that room if you can. It's a bit of a frustrating process at times, because it's polite to ask the people who are hosting you first, before you book it. Also, I only look and recommend places that have a couple of reviews, and seem to be reasonably busy on the calendar for booking.
Hope that helps, and fingers crossed you get sorted. If I misunderstood your budget, just let me know and I'll search again.

Thanks so much, Mark.
I took your advice on the Cosmo in the end. Managed to book the 3 nights there for £331 in total, so am very happy with that. Thank you again for your suggestions and recommendations! :money:0 -

Where did you book it through. A lot of sites won't have put tax on, so you may have a further 15% ish to add on.0 -
I booked it through Thomas Cook in the end (inclusive of all taxes) and my card has been charged in full, so I think that'll be it for fees (hopefully).0
