New York is expensive and thats the price you normally pay. Be aware that the bottom line isnt everything and the lowest price isnt always the cheapest. You may be out in the sticks in a sh!tty hotel a million miles away from anywhere. Staying outside Manhattan will be cheaper in New Jersey /Brooklyn Queens etc and all within 20/25 minutes journey fron manhattan central. Hotels by th airports are not good for new york stays its miles souless and costs more than you will save to get around. Find a hotel then return for views the choice is huge.enjoy nyc

Im really struggling to find a cheap hotel, they all seem £100 + per night :(
    Looking at going early September

Need to be more specific. Exact dates, and what beds do you require.

NYC isn't Manchester where you can expect hotels to be around £100. Also, Early September is when High Season starts, and prices ramp up. Weather is more bearable, and Labor Day in the US happens (1st weekend), so people are going on vacation!

Reply back with your dates... but this is an idea of prices outside of Manhattan, (still in New York City, so the subway is around the corner)

9th - 12th September at the Country Inn Suites, Long Island City is coming up at $190 before tax a night, which at £136 a night is probably one of the cheapest rooms you'll find in an easy area to get to tourist attractions.

    Hi

I've just booked a surprise trip to New York for my boyfriends christmas.
We leave Edinburgh, stop at Heathrow and then onto Newark, back via JFK though. Think its BA.
We're staying at the Paramount hotel on Times Square.... the reviews on trip advisor appear to be good but has anyone stayed there who could give me their opinion?
I paid £719pp leaving the 12th Feb returning on the morning of the 18th.

I'm booking tickets for TOTR and the empire state building on-line to give to him also but is there anything else i should book in advance or look at going to??

i understand that our trip coincides with New York fashion week so perhaps something involved with that.

Booking the two attractions that depend on the weather in advance isn't the best idea. It could be pouring with rain, or totally fogged up. There is rarely a queue at TOTR, and if you head first thing in the morning to ES, you'll get up quickly. Choose a day when the weather is good for both of these two attractions.

Is that with your friends and family discount?

Hotels in Long Island City are good, but that rate you've seen on HI's website you have to bear in mind you'll still have 15% tax to add onto the price you see on the website, meaning the price is actually $1,073.20 for the 5 night stay.

I've found the Verve Hotel, in Long Island City, King bed, $981.34 in total for your stay including taxes, which works out to be £613 for the stay, or £122 a night.

Now, using the Friends & Family link that is on the MSE Forums brings down your HI Manhattan View, down to $162.52 for a King room with Wheelchair Access, meaning that works out to be $934 (or £584), but the standard rooms are more expensive through the Friends & Family discount for some reason

Booking.com has the Union Hotel Brooklyn available for $715 before tax, making that $822.25 for the 5 nights. A few blocks away from Scenic Park Slope, walking distance to a Subway Station. £514 for the stay, or £103 per night. So close to your budget, but admittedly about 10 minute longer ride into Manhattan (20 rather than 10 minutes).

If you want a wider choice of places to stay, you really do need to up your budget a bit.

  • Hi all, looking for some advice on where to stay when me and my boyf go to New York in December; staying 5 nights from 14th to the 19th.
I do have an open mind about where/area, as long as we have easy access to Manhattan. Our budget is up to £800 for the 5 nights, this must include local taxes though.

Any suggestions or recommendations greatly appreciated.

    thanks in advance. ;)

I am hoping to book flights later this morning to Newark from Manchester. I have found the flights on Continental, Expedia a little cheaper then Netflights and Last minute.com.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of these websites. I am unable to find in their Q & A if you have to pay CC charges which of course would put the prices up a bit! also would anyone know if they all use e tickets (some of them mention paperwork will be sent out! which I don`t want - would like to book and then everything I need is on the screen to print)

Continental is £1693 but the cheapest Net flights / Last min is £1632 which would pay big chunk of our taxi fees. Also whilst Continental is the most expensive would I be best booking with them just incase of any problems.

I`d appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Many thanks

I booked mine a few weeks ago through expedia. I didn't get charged anymore for using my CC however you do need to pay it all at once or I had the option to split it into 2 payments which I did.

Mine will be an e-ticket however different company as I am flying with KLM.
