Hi All.
Me and my partner are looking at going to New York on 25th December, flying back 2nd January (dates are fixed).
Could anybody advise me on what I will be looking at for costs for the flight to allow me to plan my budget. I've already sorted out hotel budget.
The only flights I can find at the minute are £1000 return (for 2). Is this a good deal. I've being told all flights aren't available till about 11 months before the return date so I can't get a good comparison at the minute.
Is the £1000 return a good deal, expensive, standard?
Any advice appreciated0 -
Thanks Mark, you live and learn, although not sure I ever learn!!!0

I'm pretty sure you're aware that this is the most expensive time of year to travel. If you like the price of a flight, book it. There are no bargains for NYC at New Year.Could anybody advise me on what I will be looking at for costs for the flight to allow me to plan my budget. I've already sorted out hotel budget.

For me £500 flight to NYC is expensive, however, I avoid Christmas & New Year in NYC, as it's bitterly cold, and overrun with tourists wanting to see twinking lights, and stand for 14 hours in Times Square to see a ball drop. However, isn't it the argument of cost vs worth.
Now, looking on kayak, I can find £401 non direct, and £476 direct both with Iberia. British Airways are £489 direct.
Some airlines still haven't released prices for these dates, so just chill out, hang fire 2 more weeks, and then you'll be able to see.

Hi,
Looking at quotes for taxi to take us from JFK airport to Manhattan.
Staying at East 11th Street. Once I input E into the destination it comes up with E 10th St, E 100th St etc.. Am I assuming correctly that if I do E 10th St I should get correct price? That rather then to have different prices for each street they probably just price up by blocks?
This is on Dial7 btw. No idea what to do on Carmellimo at all and their email answering service is short of useless (I tried to ask).
Also when should I book the taxi for? I know I will have to ring them once we are sorted, but they still want indication of time and I have no idea how long can we get stucked at the security for?
Thank you0 -
JFK to anywhere on manhattan island is a fixed fee, with tolls and tip your looking at $60-$65 if you feel generous on the tip front.
You also dont book cabs they are lined up on a rank outside the airport.
However you mention you are staying on E11th Street, you need to get in the habit of saying what the cross ave is, you would be very lucky to find a NY cabbie who knows where any of the hotels are etc, add to that english is rarely their 1st language so I usually write down the hotel name and st and ave and if I get a blank look when I get in the cab I thrust it into their mitts.
Clearing customs can take 15mins or 2 hours depends on how quick you get there and what other flights are arrivingLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
security can keep you forever until your old as old as me. But your normally through in about a hour (15 mins either way)But if theyve just had a plane in from say Pakistan or Jamacia then !!!!!! your stuffed . Allow a hour.
Others will tell me but its one price only from JFK into NYC which is ??cant think + tolls + tips:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
Thanks guys.
There is 5 of us and luggage so we were advised to book minivan in advance, that is why I am booking in advance.0 -
NY cabs are'nt all one size they have a few people carrier types too, just wander outside the airport and you will see the queue and they will sort you outLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0

I've been advised on here that to get taxi at the airport is the most expensive way of getting a taxi.
I am quite happy to pre-book it. Just wondered whether that is the right thing I am inputing into the quoting system. If anyone knows.0 -
But its one price and you wont have a meter running so how would that be the most expensive way of doing it?Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0
