Hello
Are we allowed to offer codes on here? I am decluttering emails and realised I have a 10% code for hotels.com which expires on Sunday. I won't use it so if definitely wanted I am happy for it to go to a good home
There are T&C's which I can forward onto anyone.
Hopefully the discount will be taken off, if you were considering booking with them anyway then worth a go - Please only take if you are considering booking with them, as I wouldn't want you to be charged more if for some reason the code isn't honoured.
PM me if interested0 -
Hi all,
I've received some very helpful advice so far on here and am back for a bit more please
We arrive in EWR at 13.25 on 22/1 so not sure what plans are for initial day of arrival, I suspect once we unpacked, had quick showers to freshen up, we'll head out and just look around a bit before dinner, not sure if much more on the agenda.
Day 1 plans as follows:
Staten Island Ferry, Ground Zero, St. Pauls Church, Century 21, Brooklyn Bridge
(I would like to say thanks to the organising staff at my daughter's school for this plan - she is in NY the week prior to us on a school trip), dinner, show
Day 2: Top of the Rock, Grand Central Station, Macy's, Greenwich village?, Bloomingdales, few more shops along the way, dinner, drinks.
Day 3 (we need to leave around 2pm) so, really not sure about day 3 as really only have half a day, suggestions would be very welcome.
Also, staying at the Westin @ Times square, will we be able to leave our luggage there until we have to leave for the airport?
Thanks very much

I'm sure others may know about leaving the luggage at this particular hotel. If not you could email the hotel and ask? I emailed the one i'm staying at and they have space for luggage when checking out early.
Do you like Museums? Maybe the Museum of Modern Art?0 -
Thanks BB69, have emailed the hotel to ask about leaving luggage.
I'm not a big fan of museums, if the weather is ok, we could go to Central Park, if it's far too cold, it might be more shops - hubby will be delighted hahaha.
We've a few weeks yet to think about what we may do but I think we're pretty set on our plans for our first full day.
Thanks again

When do you leave? your post said 22/1 - I was thinking ooooh not long til you leave then I realised today is the 25th... lol
I'm not a huge fan either, but went to the Natural History museum partly as the day I went to the park it was freezing and I couldn't feel my legs after a while and also I loved everything dinosaur when I was littleIt was really good.
You could consider brunch at the view in the Marriot if that isn't a place you will have dinner at on any of the evenings?
Revolving restaurant and lovely cocktails.. Also amazing deserts from what I remember .. still think about the cheesecake and its been 2 years :rotfl:
Whatever you decide to do.. Enjoy!
Ignore the edit.. I'm confused half watching footie and doing this0 -

Confused now.. once it is cheaper, then it is more expensive.. Just 3 pages back there was and advice that it is cheaper to prebook.
When we get there, there will be a queue outside under sign "$60 for Manhattan fixed fee" or something? And that will be even for 5 people?
Every cab has a tariff printed on the door. This tariff will state a fixed fee of $45 for journeys between JFK and Manhattan. The only extras are road tolls (approx $5) and a tip of 10-15%, which is expected as the norm. We gave our cabbie a flat $60 and he seemed more than happy with it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hmm.. my concerns are you're going to spend lots of money on a show, and not enjoy it because you're going to be so tired the first day. Remember, when you land at 1pm, it's actually 6pm, when it hits 6pm NYC time for your dinner, it's actually 11pm, When the show starts at 8pm, it's 1am in the morning. Your body will think it's 3am when you're getting out. To get in to NYC for 1pm, your flight probably leaves the UK at 10am, so you're at the airport at 7am, so up at 6am, and so on an so forth.
I'd stick with the original plans, just bump the show to day 2.
Also, with day 2, you're up and down Manhattan, starting at 5th avenue and 47th street for the TOTR, then down to Grand Central, across to Macys and all the way up to 60th Street for Bloomingdales. I'd leave Greenwich Village, and add in Soho til day 3, and add Central Park into the mix of things on Day 2. Start at Macy's on 34th Street, there are loads of other shops around there, and then work your way up midtown.
Also, and I know i might cause controversy by saying this, New Yorkers don't call it Ground Zero, they call it the World Trade Center Site. Also, It is just a building site right now and not a tourist attraction as the memorial gardens are not finished yet, and the tower is still only just over halfway built. Yes, you'll walk past it when you're at Century 21, but pay your respects at the church. Here is the progress so far - http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/index.html0 -

15%-20% is the norm, you don't tip on the toll, so $45 plus $9, plus the toll, is $58.80, which is why your cabbie liked $60, as you tipped accordingly. Tipping 10% will get him thinking what a cheapskate the british tourists are.. 15%-20% is the norm now in NYC, which a lot of people just don't understand, and which is why tourist attraction restaurants, now just add 20% onto the bill regardless of party size.
