I'm still trying to decide about transfer, had quote from carmel - 5 of us and 4 bags newark to affinia gardens $60, or whether just to get taxi outside, will probably be brave enough to get bus/train for return. Any advice on transferfor newbies to new york? thanks jane0

My guide is out of date for Newark. I've not flown into Newark for years, mainly because it isn't cheaper, as it's in a separate state.
5 people / 4 bags according to the Carmel Website would be $63. A taxi you might have to hang around for, as they won't take 5 people as standard, and as ess0two has just said would be $65 plus toll and tip. (i'm going to update the guide now)
Car service prices do NOT include tolls or tips, these are still extra. Newark is an expensive airport to travel from and to, as it is in New Jersey, and not the City of New York, like JFK.
I'm always surprised that people seem to fly into Newark, I've never yet found it cheaper than JFK when I'm travelling.

Thing is, you might have saved a few quid on the flight to EWR, just to spend the saving and a bit more, on getting into Manhattan. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish as the saying goes..

Thanks, we're a 4 though and found no problem getting a taxi the last time. The extra travel doesn't really bother me either. Anyone any idea what I'd be looking at for tolls?
You see, flying from Glasgow there isn't any direct option other than Newark.0 -

If you enter the tunnel heading into NYC, during these times, Weekdays: 6-9 a.m., 4-7 p.m., Sat. & Sun.: 12 Noon-8 p.m, Then it's $8, Any other time than the ones listed, it's $6.
Also, if you get a yellow taxi back to Newark, you do have to pay the Toll for the taxi to get back into NYC, as they are unable to pick up at Newark Airport. This should not apply to a prebooked car service, as they can wait at Newark for a fare.

If one's husband doesn't read the flight info properly before booking, then one ends up at EWR rather than JFK and denies having done so when asked said flight lands at EWR!!!!!
Of course, had I booked our flights, we'd have gone to JFK0 -

That's great Mark, thanks!0 -
Ive noticed more non stop flights comming in and out of Newark Airport(from mankchester) and less in % non stop flights leaving Mankchester to JFK. One thing i really hate is the overnighter on the return. Liverpool used to have a flight in about 1am:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Both Delta and American fly MAN/JFK/MAN and only Continental fly MAN/EWR/MAN
Swings and roundabouts really. If you're staying midtown west, port authority, chelsea, then EWR does the trick. If you're thinking of staying in LIC,Queens, Brooklyn, UES, Grand Central, LES, Midtown East, then JFK is a much better choice.
And saying all that, with the amount of miles I've accrued, I'm sticking with Delta into JFK for the forseeable future.
