Hmm.. my concerns are you're going to spend lots of money on a show, and not enjoy it because you're going to be so tired the first day. Remember, when you land at 1pm, it's actually 6pm, when it hits 6pm NYC time for your dinner, it's actually 11pm, When the show starts at 8pm, it's 1am in the morning. Your body will think it's 3am when you're getting out. To get in to NYC for 1pm, your flight probably leaves the UK at 10am, so you're at the airport at 7am, so up at 6am, and so on an so forth.

Completely agree with that! When we were last in NYC we went to see the Blue Man Group the day we arrived and boy was that a struggle!

I'd stick with the original plans, just bump the show to day 2.

agree with this i was on AA105 leaving LHR at 12pm that got to JFK at about 2pm.we were able to get to hotel have a shower and then go for walk round TS have something to eat and a few beers by 9pm NYC time we were hanging the thought of sitting through a show was a no no. would have ended up paying to have a sleep.

We made the mistake of booking a basketball match for the night we got there.

Arrived about 1200, had lunch, had a sleep, got to the basketball for 7pm and by three quarters of the way through we were nearly dying we were so tired.

But, it was the only night we could go so it had to be done.

Thanks to everyone who has made suggestions for my itinerary.

I didn't mean to put 'show' on day 1, I fully expect to be far too weary to sit through a show, I'd probably nod off, at best I wouldn't enjoy it half as much, so plan is for the evening of the 1st or 2nd full day.

The comments about our plans for day 2, I'll re-look at those once I've found a really good map that I can enlarge and pinpoint exact locations, but your comments are very helpful, that's exactly what I was looking for when posting my itinerary.

    Thanks again, much appreciated.

Lady, what I would do is plot everywhere you want to go on one of those personalised Google Maps you can do. Then you should see a natural way of going about things. ;)

I was going to give you a link to https://www.nyc-map.com which is something I created a while ago, however, I forgot to renew the domain name. Click on it tomorrow, and it'll be up and running.

Basically, it's maps, with mini pins on denoting things to do etc, and subway stops near by. Nicely categorised. I need to update it, and will do, and add more features such as printable itineraries.

    All for freesies... ain't I nice! ;)

Got back at half 8 this morning :j. Only had 3 hours sleep on the way back, had an hour's power-nap today so hoping to fool my body when I go to bed in a bit. Fingers crossed.

Had a fantastic time so thanks to all those who responded to my queries. If anyone is interested, I could give you a run down of our actual itinery but not tonight, I'm bushed. Highlight was a (unbelievably expensive) lunch at the four seasons restaurant.

We were out there this weekend braving the freezing temps. -5 at the wekeend, down to -10 on Monday  and 6" of snow covering Central Park. At least it meant we did not have to queue for anything :rotfl:Even the E.S.B. was like a ghost town.

Lady1964, your day 2 itinery looks a bit ambitious unless you mean SoHo Bloomingdales although we found that one a bit more funky/contemporary than the main store on 59th.

A couple of points beofre I forget...

We landed at Terminal 3, called Carmel who we'd booked with and were asked to make our way +cases to terminal 4 pick up area. Not impressed by that. For the extra 10 bucks I would have got a cab from T3 instead.

Using the metro. We didn't use it much (4 trips) but each time were able to load a MetroCard with $4.50 to get 2 trips. Didn't have to load up $10+ to get the $2.25 rate. Either I asked the guy at the ticket booth for 2 tickets or choose a new card/reload a MEtroCard on the ticket machine. Hope that helps someone :)
I spend less than I earn and if I can't afford it I don't buy it. I'm guessing that makes me a money saver.

I've never known them to do that, normally at T3, you go to the top of the ramp, and left to the departures level. Weird that!

You don't need to load it with $10 to get the $2.25 rate, that is the standard pay per ride metrocard rate. However, if you load it with $10 you get a bonus of 7%, It's also a subway not a metro. ;), so your 4 trips cost you $18 the way you did it, rather than the $16.85 it should have cost, bringing your price per trip down to $2.11

If you buy a single ticket, it is $2.50. Single tickets are cardboard, and not a plastic metrocard.

Just to let you know, that my project of nyc-map is back up and running, and I'll add in some other places as pinpoints. If you want something specific adding (hotels especially), just drop me a private message.
