    Hi M4rk
Thought i would check out the Element and as you say its brand new and a little "too new" so far. but its opened up another area of Trip Advisor i never new. Specialty Lodges and Apartments some look good and in great locations,

Always another angle to look at

I'd be careful with "apartments" some are illegal, (even ones on TA), some are what is classed as "single room occupancy" which is designed for locals, not transient tourists. And then some are perfectly acceptable and a good idea.

Just be careful if you're looking at alternative accommodation to the normal hotel chain.

    Hi,

Does anyone know if Continental or United airlines have any flight sales and if so, when they typically are?

I've been looking to book a trip to NYC in April for 2 of us and it's coming out as way more expensive than it was for us to go in May last year. :(

  • hi

We booked with major travel whenwe flew earlier this month, we flew with Delta and had no problems, few time changes but nothing major, We paid £330, it was the cheapest we could find. We had good flight times and a direct flight from heathrow to jfk.

  • Hello, 3 of my friends and I are looking to go to New York in Dec of 2011. When would be a good time to get prices? ie how far in advance can you book?

Does it seem to be cheaper in a package or flight and hotel the best bet? We have also looked on tripadvisor and they have a section on apartments which some seem cheaper then the hotels.

We are looking to book as far in advance as possible so we have time to pay and save to go.

    Thanks in advance
  • There seem to be some decent sales on at the moment. We booked yesterday and paid less than a tenner more for September 2011, than we paid for September 2010, which was quite a surprise. I was expecting to pay a whole lot more.
From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!

Help please. For my friends 60th, 10 ladies are going to N.Y.for 4 nights in June. Hotel and flight booked. But need ideas/help to make the best of the trip. Reasonable priced restaurant for a special meal, etc. What to see but more important what not to see. (My first post so hope I've got this right)

Well 1st off welcome to MSE and also welcome to the NY section.

For anyone to be able to answer your question you need to help yourself a bit.

How to make the best of the trip well thats personal preference do you want to go and see a sporting event or are you happy wandering the streets, you must have some idea what you would like to see.

Food again is personal, how do YOU define reasonable? you could be a pauper or a millionaire!, add to that I could suggest a dozen steak places in NY and you may be a vege or not like steak etc.

So think roughly what you would like to do and we can go on from there.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY

Gangs of new york god help them when they let you lot loose.
I would bang your heads together and sort out a show to see. Nothing more special IMHO than the build up and anticipation of a good broadway show and you could fit it in with a decent meal before or after. Sort out between you travel plans to and from airport and around NYC a 3 day pass would be good (what hotel are you staying)You will split up and meet up so sort that out once your there. There will be music and sporting events around NYC try Maddison Square Garden see whats there or The Bowery/ BB Kings Blues Bar/ Radio City /Apollo etc There is often a decent daytime concert in Central Park around may/june. Shop shop shop shop and shop some more .See the sights from the heights ESB or better still IMO Top of the Rock , Brooklyn Bridge, Stat O Lib, Parks, Deli, endless as Phatty says give us more what you are about (is there anyone with wheelchairs or dodgy on their feet) totally different approach to what you want or can do. enjoy NYC
