Still struggling on best way to get from newark airport to hotel with there being 5 of us - are there taxi big enough for all of us, would limo service be better?
As well as the stereotypical yellow cab they also have people carriers so your party of 5 wont be a problemLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
As above . Also peoples memorible lifetime experiences differ greatly helicopter or flights/ballon ride etc are often top of peoples list anywhere thus A> there in demand B>They are pricey.C> They dont last long enough D> if you manage to get past ABC the D> the memories are normally fantastic and memorible. How long have you got in NYC are you on a budget ?
Plus my spelling is getting worse but cannot be 4rsed anymore.
Making a plan of things to do is always good but leave spaces to do other things too amazing how people plan for a days "doing" without thinking we have to eat/change drop shopping off etc:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
Thank you - will the people carriers be found with a taxi queue, or should I book? dont want to find ourselves in an illegal cab!
Re the helicpoter flight- just thought it would be something that we probably wouldnt do at home. We in new york for 5 nights, budget is changeable - holiday of a lifetime, children getting older and having a very small xmas to pay for it! The things to do list is getting bigger - but def need time for shopping0 -

You cant pre-book cabs.
There will be a taxi rank outside the terminal so just approach that and the dispatcher will direct you to the cab based on your party size.
Avoid any touts by only getting in an official yellow cabLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Was looking for something very memorable to do- as if trip itself isnt enough!! Looking at helicopter rides, unfortunately not found any with particuarly good reviews- so any recomendations appreciated
Thanks Jane
I flew with liberty helicopters on the west side. They do various flight lengths. I did the longest - 22mins and think it was about $280 per person. BUT this was the company that had the crash last year http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8191582.stm. There is another heliport on the west side and another on the lower east side i think. However looking back it wasn't as spectacular as i thought and don't think was worth the money. The news of the crash last year has definatley put me off further helicopter flights!
If you are lookig for something memorable, climbing to the top of the statue of liberty, looking at the views from TOTR and watching a Yankees game are at the top of my list of new york memories.0 -

I don't particularly recommend the supershuttle: as m4rk said at the time, there is nothing super about it! and definitely do NOT pay extra for exclusive use. In theory it means you are the only ones in the vehicle and will go straight to your hotel rather than on a scenic tour of the hotels of NY but that didn't happen for us.
for our boys, I think the highlight was the unplanned extra day where they spent the am cycling round Central Park while we went to the MoMA. but we then went on to a place called Wildwood for a few days. Accurately described by someone here as like the armpit of Blackpool, but from there we went whale watching which was overall highlight!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I had an email this morning from Hotel Conxions who I booked the Cosmo through a few years ago and they have a few good deals on hotels at the moment.
Worth a look if you are thinking of going soon Jan/Feb the Cosmo is $109ish a night.0 -
Thanks for replies, will continue to buid the to do list and then wait and see what else takes our fancy while we are there.0

We used Dial 7 for our transfer (www.dial7.com/). Pre-booked on the internet the day before we left and they were so good we booked our return while in NY. We were four adults with a lot of luggage as we were going on a cruise so booked a van which was great.
What about a show as a "highlight"? As well as the usual TOTR etc we enjoyed the NYPD Museum which we took in with a trip of the Staten Island Ferry. The Ferry is free and we had amazing views of the Statue.0 -
