Can anyone advise how much the subway costs, for a day or 5 day pass?

$27 for 7 days, $8.25 for 1 day, as previously stated. However, these prices do go up on the 30th December, so if you're travelling after that date, it is $29 for 7 days, and the 1 day pass doesn't exist, so you need to work out if the pay per ride card will work out better, which is $2.25 per ride, but if you top up $10 you get a 7% bonus (70¢).

All information regarding New York Subway, is available at https://www.mta.info including all the latest maps. there have been a number of changes with regards to trains that run, so guidebook maps might be out of date

Tone is hard to portray, but sometimes you do take me far too seriously...

Not really Mark - you do seem to stomp off on a regular basis and they do say actions speak louder than words so assume from that that you really do take offence too easily. I do get a little bit fed up with the level of pseudo snobbery which goes on on this forum from time to time i.e. if anyone wants to do something very touristy for instance. Really it is up to the individual, if they want to stay in Times Square or go to Planet Hollywood, that is their choice to say so without being shot down for it - wouldn't do for us all to like the same things.

Having said that, and for what its worth, I very much enjoy reading most of your posts and take my hat off to your knowledge of all things NY so hope you do stick around this time as I know you have given invaluable help to loads of people and as my daughter is going to NY in April with her friend I am sure I will want to tap your brain pretty soon as well.
  • I would just like to add that I've been reading these forums for ages, although I don't post much. I too really enjoy reading Mark's posts - he is so helpful and a mine of information. I hope he stays too.

Thanks also to all other people who take the time to reply to posts with advice.

thanks for this - am off on Saturday (still haven't booked anywhere:eek:) but working on the basis that, as one of the previous posters on here advised, NY is a big place and there's bound to be a bed free somewhere!:)

Has anyone stayed? Is it close to some shopping, sights etc

Is the area ok for me to walk about alone at night- or on my way back from a day out?

Please just take normal safety measures esp walking alone /at night/as a girl (ghdgirl) no where is 100% safe ever. Keep your valubles close walk with confidence dont take chances avoid bottlenecks and dark alleys etc etc you know the score. Havent stayed in the warwick but know the area well and its touristy between Times Square and Central Park a few steps from decent shops all around. Enjoy NYC . Google street view the address and have a looksy round.

  • Hi, new to the site, have read hours of new york info- so thanks for tips. Going to N Y in feb with husband and 3 teenagers -13,16 and 17. Staying Affinia Gardens, plan to get metro card, have started making plan of where to visit.
Still struggling on best way to get from newark airport to hotel with there being 5 of us - are there taxi big enough for all of us, would limo service be better?
Was looking for something very memorable to do- as if trip itself isnt enough!! Looking at helicopter rides, unfortunately not found any with particuarly good reviews- so any recomendations appreciated
    Thanks Jane
