as said allow an hour to clear everything, although personally i think a cab from jfk is a better option.I was going to use carmel or lincoln but read in small print that if you were running late then there is only so much waiting time they allow once that has elapsed the cost goes up.
I ended up getting a taxi walked outside doors straight in a yellow cab and a set fee of $45 plus tax and tips.

Agree with you completely there. We have always used the yellow cabs and found them to be extremely easy and efficient.

yellow cab is probably great if your party is not too large: we were 5 so wouldn't have fitted us and suitcases in. And I didn't want to risk losing anyone too soon!

you are right - not suitable for larger parties. My daughter is going to NY soon with her friend for first time on their own and yellow cab is certainly the best option for them. Although I am nervous about her going on her own the fact that I know how easy the yellow cabs are to find at JFK means that is one less thing I have to worry about (although there are plenty of others to take its place!!).

Looking for a New York Hotel lower Manhatten, or Midtown. Reasonabily priced and clean! Any suggestions?

I have seen The Wolcott Hotel - anyone stayed here?
Can anyone advise how much the subway costs, for a day or 5 day pass?

i recently stayed at the MAve hotel on madison avenue down by madison square park in the flatrion district.
very clean fresh and modern cost me £820 for 2 adults and a child for 6 nights,no bar or restaurant but lets face it hardly spoiled for choice in NYC so it was not a problem for me.

i was originally offered the wolcott that looked very similar quality as what i got and for the same price unfortunately they were fully booked by the time i had looked at info.

subway info can be found here.

I have stayed at the Hotel Stanford 3 times and about to stay there again. Its round the corner from Empire State Building. Clean, comfortable and reasonably priced.

Have you considered Hotel Stanford. Its just round the corner to Empire State Building. Stayed there 3 times and about to stay again. Its clean, central and reasonably cheap.

  • Hi everyone,

Just an idea at the moment but I was thinking of getting someone coming on our trip to NY with us a Restaurant.com Gift Certificate as a Christmas gift. Is there any included in Restaurant.com that people would highly recommend or is a really good deal?

Been to NY before but can't remember everywhere we ate! Not really Indian/Thai fans, possibly a steakhouse?

Trying to think of a gift that incorporates our trip to NY but something that won't get wasted (ie. a gift card for a certain store etc.). At least with a Restaurant.com Gift Certificate they can choose the place they want to eat at using it  If anyone has any other ideas please feel free :)
