Very pleased with myself, just booked for next April, 6 months and counting. Staying at Affinia Shelburne, anyone stayed here?

I stayed here with my husband, it was 4 years ago now but it was a great hotel in a good central location, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Hope this helps, have a fab time, I'm so jealous would love to go back there!
  • does anyone know what the taxi fare is nowadays from jfk to manhatten hotels?
also does the flat rate fare include the tolls?
i did try and google this but the posts were from a couple of years ago so would like to know an up to date price, thanks!

$45 flat rate but that doesn't include tolls or a tip. Tolls work out at just over $5 IIRC so the cabbie will expect about $60 with the tip.

Glad to hear it, thanks, and I believe it's been renovated recently. Really looking forward to going back. Went last October and stayed at Crowne Plaza TS but prices for April were sky high

Right i know it's a money saving forum, but here's the best piece of advice i can offer, buy a guide book. I know it's madness to advocate spending a few quid (seriously no more than £5-6 will suffice) but it will help you understand things a lot better when planning your days.

When i went last year i had a few ideas of what i wanted to do (ESB, Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden tour) and figured out what was best to do on the same days. So for example i knew that ESB & MSG are pretty close to each other, so i figured it was best to do those on the same day rather than say ESB & Yankee Stadium tours.

The reason i'm saying about the guide books is because they can recommend things you might not think of, may have suggested iteneries (sp) and often come with a small pocket map. If you want to sort it out so you know where stuff is, i'm pretty sure you can pin stuff on Bing/Google maps to give you an idea as to what will work "together" area wise.

I would definitely agree with this advice but if you want to remain MSE, you can usually find a lot of travel guides in libraries to borrow. Saves you from buying it and you can have a variety.

ok, officially hitting panic mode, with 6 days till we fly!!!
    OMG i am sooooo excited!!!

I was wondering if there was anything i needed to know that was going on in NY next week? sales, holidays etc, think i have covered everything, but always happy to listen to others that are better informed.
Also, apart from the totr coupon that i have printed off, is there any other vouchers about for anything over there at the mo? i have tried looking but my head is sooo muddled at the mo, that everything is starting to look the same.
    Thanks
