Row 41 has got windows it's just I was in centre if the row.
Oh ok I get you now:-)
I plan on getting to the airports early anyway but I didn't realise you had to check in two hours before departure. I thought it was one hour.0 -

Look at the history and see more than 75% of terrorist/hijackers/shoe bombers/ are from middle east or indian/ pakistaini(or english/us born muslim) origin over the past 30 years. Then there is a immigration issue too.So many Afgans are running on very good false eastern european passports. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
I’m hoping for your help and opinions on my future trip to ny. (I hope I’m posting this in the right thread)
Let me firstly say I have been to New York before and am aware that the streets are not paved with gold and the idea of a real bargain is nearly none existent.
I’m aiming to visit in early December next year - 2011 (I know I’m early with the preparation) with 3 maybe 4 friends.
Last time I visited we stayed in Meadowlands New Jersey and got the bus into the city everyday this was very good and I recommend it we felt we had to get an early-ish bus home as 2 young girls in a bus station late at night felt uncomfortable. So this time id love to stay in Manhattan itself.
We’d love to stay in an apartment my personal preference would be in the east village but as long as the areas safe and pretty near to the ‘attractions’ id love to get the real experience when staying there……so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? (I have read the threads but they were from a few years ago)
Flights I’m planning on booking British airways or Virgin I’m aware that prices have rocketed since my last trip. We have set dates chosen midweek to save a little more money but I was wondering whether there was a good time to book for December?
Any help would be appreciated…..0 -

It’s left to me to do all the booking so I feel under pressure to make sure we get a relatively good deal as one of the girls is pretty bad with money (I think I’m fighting a loosing battle).

The best advice I can give you is don't bother. Short term rentals are pretty much outlawed in New York City. Most of the ones on craigslist and vacation rentals etc are scammers, even if they're not scammers, they're usually illegal and you could be evicted at any time.
I'm staying in Long Island City, in a hotel, it cost about £270 for five nights. Two stops on the subway, or probably $20 taxi or less.0 -

Doesn't seem to be an overly easy way of getting from Queens to Newark on the return though. Can either pay loads for a taxi or catch the subway to Times Square, then to Penn Station and onto Newark. Really need to see if there's anything else that doesn't cost the earth.
I'm not sure which one in Queens you have booked, I'm booked to stay in the Country Inn & Suites Long Island City
It's costing me £270 for five nights from the 9th November.0 -
Hi folks, it's a milestone birthday for me next year! So Dh has said he' gonna take me NY, We've never been before so not really sure what we should be looking for. By reading some of this thread we've decided we should stay midtown, will only be going for 3-4 nights so need somewhere central. The best deal we can find is for the NEW YORKER hotel in a standard room, can anyone advise on location, standard of accomadation etc. We are expecting the room to be small, but want somewhere clean, close to all the usual tourist attractions.
Any feedback would be of great help!:D0 -

Same place based on what you said on another forum
Works out for me as $992 or around £672 for 5 nights in Nov ($170 a night + taxes), which, whilst not quite what you're paying, is a far better deal than in Manhattan. No worse than say staying at Earl's Court and travelling by tube to Leicester Square or Oxford St.0 -

I've stayed at the New Yorker
Not all the rooms are small-we booked a triple and it was massive-and fun to have a view of the ESB
It was fine for what we wanted -a base to stay as we were out all the time. The subway station was right outside and plenty of reaonable places to eat right outside.
It was a longish but do-able walk to Times Square. One night we had show tickets-we left at the same time-some of us walked some got a cab-and the walkers got there first
I'd stay there again-in fact you've prompted me to go check rates as I'm in the early stages of planning a trip :TI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I know about the Roosevelt Hotel that's known to promote exclusive offers on Twitter/Facebook, is there any other hotels that are prone to do this?
Want to keep an eye on prices for my trip in March, already signed up to Kayak and the likes.0
