Our flights back are always night flights so to maximise our time in nyc we leave our bags with the hotel, most of them offer baggage storage, and then pick them up later and get the cab at the same time, simple, this way you wont be hanging around the airport un-neccesarily, ironically im writing this from bratislava airport where we've been for the past 2 hours waiting for a plane which doesnt leave for another hour!
Thanks phatbear, I will think about doing that. If it's cold maybe I could go watch a film or something before collecting my bags.
How long before your flight is due do you leave Manhattan?0 -
Glad to hear it, thanks, and I believe it's been renovated recently. Really looking forward to going back. Went last October and stayed at Crowne Plaza TS but prices for April were sky high
just booked for my daughter and her friend for april as well. Booked her on the Sex & the City Tour (although she has done it once already!).0 -
Hi guys.
Are you fussy about where you sit on the plane? Do you find as you get older you get more fussy about things? When I was a lot younger I travelled to Florida and didn't give anything a second thought. Now I seem to worry about where I sit, haven't travelled for ages - worrying about order of doing things, what to do at the airport, worried about making a mistake etc. This is the first time I have travelled alone, nervous but very excited though - first trip to NYC.0 -

Personally I allow an hour/hour and a half just to get to JFK then obviously allow for the 2 hours check in, my attitude is you cant be too early for a flight, alas JFK isnt the most exciting airport in the world.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

I may also book the Admirals Lounge for my return because I check out of my hotel at 12 pm but flight isn't until 6.30pm.
I arrived in NYC this afternoon arrived on American 105 the flight was really good,I will go as far as saying better than virgin in my opinion.
Food was better, leg room was better and crew were mire helpful.
If you can choose seats go for row 41 if you are flying on a 777 in cattle class cabin ideally centre row as leg room there is more than others. No window but at least can stretch legs out.0 -

Hi Johnny, wow lucky you - wish I was there. I have reserved 26c to JFK because it was the only aisle seat available nearer the front - didn't really want the set of 4 seats though. Going back home I did actually pick 41 aisle seat. I didn't know there was no window there though.

When i went i got out of the airport relatively quickly, i know this is going to sound really shocking but it looked to me like they were more inclined to pull over people of a certain ethnicity. Out of the entire flight they "randomly" selected 75% of the people from the Indian subcontinent who were on the flight and litterally one white guy to check out. Myself i litterally rocked up to the security checkpoint, handed over the lil "card" you fill in on the flight (top tip, take a pen!), showed my passport, confirmed i was there on holiday and had a flight booked home, quick picture and i was on my way, no more than 1-2 minutes through security.
As for getting to JFK, don't muck about, set off a minimum of 4 hours before your flight time, you might be waiting in the airport for a couple of hours, but hey it gives you time to grab a drink & relax before your flight. Manhattan traffic is TORTURE and given the fact you'll also encounter toll bridge on the way there could extend things. Taxi's are flat rate from Manhattan to all the airports but that doesn't include toll ($5 at the time - can't imagine that has changed!) & tip.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

Manhattan isn't really renowned for being cheap!
It's only when leaving I have to go to Newark. Flying into JFK initially so can either catch the airtrain or get a cab for $45 or so into Manhattan.0
