ok, i promise not many more questions, just getting soooo excited they are spilling out!
As part of our prize, we have just found out we are being picked up by nyc royal limo's, does anyone have any experience?
Also, we fly from t4 at heathrow, we have booked a black cab to drop us off at the entrance, how far is it to arrivals/check in etc? as a disabled traveller i have ideas of having to try and walk miles to find desks and gates......
Checked in at Terminal 4 last week - not far to walk from drop off to departures ( 2 mins to Delta desk, 2 mins to security and then that is it. Our gate was by the shops (Delta Heathrow - JFK, don't know if they are always the same gate for this flight) too so literally no walk there either!0 -
Eh up, sorry been out of the country helping lithuanian's economy.
Anyway this is an interesting one which I can kind of answer but also cant.
There are now things called "teb's" which us lot have been using for years for seized goodies however some, and this is the key word here "some" duty free shops are using, so if you buy goods and then have to go through security again as long as the seal is intact on the teb, which stands for tamper evident bag, is intact you can take your goodies airside, however this has'nt been rolled out everywhere so I cant give 100% advice.
On other point to the person saying about putting it in your luggagea at JFK, you wont be able to do that because despite the duty free shop being land side they deliver the goods to the gate, ie long after you have checked your baggage in.
So my suggestion would be, check if you see your bags at LHR if so put the duty free in there, if not do you go through a transit lounge, ie you dont actually go airside-landside-airside therefore there isnt a security issue.
i had suggested purchasing duty free on outbound and then putting in luggage before setting off back to jfk,but having read your post and the op's earlier reply it is possible to get duty free on flight home and put in luggage at LHR after reclaiming and checking in again for the BMI leg of journey.
i have had them sealed bags previously from SFO and BGI and wondered why they were sealed, now i know thanks phatbear learn something new every day.0 -
What Visa do I need for a week break in NYC? Do I just need to fill out the ESTA? Or is there anything else?
Thanks in advance. I'll report back with my recommendations when I'm back.0 -

Hi - I may be able to offer a little advice. On arrival at the airport there is a button you can press for special assistance - they will provide a wheelchair/pusher and take you straight to check in. Or you can ask once inside. Help can also be provided with one of the carts which should help with walking issues. Also, if you are using a wheelchair you are (or should be!) pre boarded - first on last off. A wheelchair can be booked to be brought to the plane door on landing which helps. The Americans are brilliant at helping disabled pax and we have always found them incredibly helpful. Lastly, check on everything twice over if necessary - mistakes do happen.
And NYC is fantastic and I love it!! You will have a brilliant time, I'm sure but bear in mind the scale of the place if walking is an issue for you. At most places a disabled person goes to the head of the queue - and also again if walking is a problem you will need a wheelchair to get around. If I can be of any further help pm me. Have fun!!0 -

ESTA, and as of a couple of weeks ago you now have to pay for it, but they're valid for 2 years I believe.Adam's diary - My Debt Diary - The Challenge | LBM May 2010 with £23,343.35 | £16,141.46 to go...

Back from MYC and wanted to say thanks to all those who provided helpful advice.
As some of you know from my previous postings we opted to stay in Greenpoint/Williamsburgh in Brooklyn and i would thoroughly recommend it. Really nice hip and trendy area. We loved Five Leaves Cafe which was part funded by Heath Ledger and its worth a subway ride on the G line to Nassau avenue just for that.

only blight on the great week was a subway scam when i was half awake on our arrival to NYC early in the morning. Some 'official' looking person asked to check my ticket (clearly not official MTC employee in hindsight but some guy in security guard uniform) and checked it by swiping it through the turnstile (we hadnt gone through it but through the emergency gates as we had our large suitcases) he gave me back what I thought was my pass but of course he had done a slight of hand trick and had given me back an old used ticket. So $27 down the drain but you live and learn! Dont give anyone your ticket!!0
