On our return we fly from JFK to Heathrow then get a flight from
Heathrow to Manchester. Can anyone tell me, can we buy any duty
free at JFK and bring it back? The thing thats bothering me is we have
to check in at BMI Heathrow so surely liquids would be taken from us?

Are you internally transfering or collecting you lugguage and changing flights to get home?

  • Hello all,

A few questions from an excited novice who’s off to NYC for the first time at the weekend! (My first ever Trans-Atlantic flight too!)

I’m staying near 42nd St (Port Authority), and flying in from Heathrow to JFK. I’ve planned to take the air train then the subway to access Manhatten, but have been told conflicting advice on where to get off for the subway connection. Is Jamaica St or Howard Beach the best option? Or doesn’t it not make much difference?!

2nd Question! My & my partner are on a relatively modest budget for our 5 night stay – but we’d really like to grab a few drinks in the “view” bar in time square which I appreciate it quite pricey. I’ve noted on the website that they do not accept cash – only card or tabs to hotel rooms (obviously we’re not staying in the hotel!). Does anybody know on the off chance whenever Visa Electrons work in the US?! Does this incorporate astronomical charges?

Final question – I’m registered disabled in the UK, are there any concessions for disabled people in NYC? Or would I have needed to have been registered in the US for to be in possession of the appropriate paperwork etc… it is fine if this is the case, but any money we can save towards seeing as many sights as possible would be great.

I’ve done a basic search of this thread, but not returned any valid answers for my questions.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read & respond. x

Also would you buy tickets for hop on hop off now and totr and empire state or will i get them cheaper and easier when i get there ?

i think you may be correct about the liquid thing a call to BMI should confirm for you.
could you get your duty free on outbound/in NYC and put in suitecase?

Just returned from NY on Delta and no one was interested in the size or weight of hand luggage - wasn't even given a glance! Had a hand bag and large holdall.

a lot of airlines are like that these days so long as hand luggage is not obviously way oversize, unless it is queezy jet or ryanair that is.

Dont think there is a weight limit as such so long as you can lift it up and put it in the locker. Delta let you bring a small suitcase/bag and 'personal item' handbag/laptop so two items for hand luggage.

I am flying KLM on Saturday via AMS and they say the same I am taking a small Samsonite suitcase and a medium sized bag onboard with me.

Getting very excited now..... I go on Saturday :T
