Hello - thanks for all the help ive already had earlier in this thread.

Its 4 weeks till I go on honeymoon to New York, we booked flights a while ago with KLM (but on a Delta flight) through lastminute.com

We were telling a friend yesterday how excited we are now we have started making our itinery and everything, but when she asked what flights we had, we told her and she said when her and her husband booked a KLM flight through someone else they ended up sitting seperately because at check in they told her that they give priority to people to booked direct with KLM/Delta.

Has anyone heard anything about this before?

I have been to the USA a few times but my wife has never been on a flight longer that about 1 & a half hours so shes a bit nervous about the flight as it is without having to sit apart (plus its our honeymoon!)

The other thing I was wondering was if anyone had experience of getting any free upgrades because of honeymoon. We're staying at the New Yorker and im sure I read a story from someone saying they'd got an upgrade there because of just being married. Do you need to tell them in advance or just when you turn up? Do you need your marriage certificate?

I'm probably overthinking it! - I know New York is amazing anyway as ive been before so it'll be fine if we don't get anything. But as im sure everyone on this forum will agree - if you can get out for nowt - its usually worth it!

    :p

I booked direct with Delta last year and then pre-booked our seats on their website so we were sat together. This year our holiday is a package through Virgin and the flights are with Delta. I simply logged onto Delta site with my reference and pre-booked the seats again. Just do this and you dont have to stress about not being together.

    Chris.
Have you chose your seats yet on the website who you booked with (Delta or KLM)?
Like the post above I have always pre booked my seats never had any problems.
If you havent done it yet I'd do this as that way will know you are seated together and it wont be left to check in to seat you on arrival at the airport.

I dont have any experience of an upgrade but I have stayed at the New Yorker. I have read this on TA but id say it was just luck and how busy the hotel is during your stay. I had a few problems on check in as I wasnt initally given the room I had payed for so I'd say the chances of an upgrade just before your on honeymoon were silm. You could email in advance and ask if they could give you a nice room as its your honeymoon but dont get your hopes up as I emailed twice before my stay and wasnt evem given the upgrade that i'd payed for never mind for free.
New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥

We're going to NYC to get married in 3 weeks so it'll be our wedding/honeymoon. I've emailed the hotel and I've also written to the airline aswell. Well if you dont ask, you dont get.:)
Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!

It was outside NY, but we stayed in a Holiday Inn Express for a couple of nights, using a couple of their 'suites'. These had two double beds each, plus a fridge and the wherewithal for making drinks too (although this was a coffee machine not a kettle, but you can just about make tea in a coffee machine!), I think even a microwave.

It meant there was room for all 5 of us to bundle into one room, have a drink and plan the next stage ...

So could be worth looking at 'suites' rather than rooms.

Ooooh very interesting!!:D I'll have to look into this, as we could book 2 'suites' and there'd be plenty of space for everyone!

    Thanks for that!:money:
  • If you are interested in suites, there are a few options in NYC which I am sure other folk might know about. For me, I have stayed at Embassy Suites in downtown NY where we had a suite - bedroom with double bed and lounge with pull out double bed. Both rooms had TV and the lounge had a little kitchen area with coffee maker, cups etc, microwave, fridge etc. Not a cheap option for 2 but probably Ok between 4 of you - maybe they would even put another bed in to make it OK for 5 people? Just to note, the breakfast was included and it was amazing and kept up going until late afternoon as you could eat plenty (omlettes, bacon, cheese, ham, muffins, fruit etc) and there are takeaway boxes so you can take loads of stuff back to your room for later. Good luck.

Is that the place a fair walk away in the meat packing district?

Can you still get to WTC site on the old walkway that connected twin towers to other WTC buildings over road?

It's on liberty street next to the site, think that's the ground zero musuem you're thinking of which we didn't make it to. And I didn't see a walkway, it's a nice big construction site atm for the One World Tower so was quite hetic.

Whalter, you can check in online and choose your seats 24hours before. I booked through opodo with KLM for a delta plan and was assigned a seat when I booked for my international flights, so you'll probably be given seats next to each other. Though my flight booked through opodo with delta I got a seat 10mins before I got on the plane! (internal in USA), despite booking it before my friend, who was allowed to choose his seat when he booked! I'm sure if you get there early if online checkin fails and mention the honeymoon they'll put you together :)

yes its the museum i was thinking of,the walkway connected 1 world trade centre over other side of west street with the twin towers as you got over the twin tower side there were railings where you could look in to the crater that had been dug out.it was where people gathered to try and flog tours and picture opportunities to tourists

  • Any one used Manhatten Airporter transfers? we have just got our tickets (Virgin Package) and they are part of the package.

However, I can't seem to find them on trip advisor to get reviews and I am wondering why? are they just for Virgin customers?

    Any help appreciated!
    Thanks in advance
