Tonight I will be booking flights to New York from Dublin through United Airlines - works out at $510 - so about £330 or so....going on 9th December - return on 14th December
I'm just a bit worried about hotels - is it better to book closer to the time of going - say middle of november - I know prices are high because it's Christmas - but any advice that ANYONe can offer, would be great - even if its just your experience of a hotel etc....last time I went we stayed at Affinia Manhattan - got a room upgrade to a suite (4 of us - 2 bedroom suite) as we weren't happy with our small pokey rooms which were on separate floors (specifically asked for on same floor).....the upgrade was brilliant - amazing views of all over manhattan...
Thanks0 -
I'd say that was a good price on the flights being December and not that far off.
Have you started looking at hotels/ hotel prices yet?
If I was in your situation I would try and book something soon if you know your dates which you do. As you know December prices can be very expensive so If it was me knowing this I would think prices in this month would only go up not down so would try and book a hotel asap.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

Thanks - it's good to get other's views on it....know my dates et al... so basically it is the hotels - they are averaging just over about £200 a night....expensive - suppose if I have got the good deal on the flights, then now is the best time to be paying high for hotels....
I've only stayed at the one hotel in manhattan - affinia manhattan (lovely, and great location).....
can you suggest any other hotels? I was looking at Hotel Pennyslyvania as it is one of the cheapest, but I know that it's gotten very bad reviews, and its not exactly the nicest of placest to stay, even at its price..0 -

Not sure what price you found Pennyslyvania? but its £147.69 per night for your dates on Travel Republic.
Just done a quick search on travelsupermarket. Only one I found was The Sohotel 3* Venere and booking.com have it for £732 for your dates.
Havent had a proper look at reviews however they look very mixed like the Pennyslyvania not the best.
Found these on booking.com have not checked any of there reviews so will need to research:
Mayor Hotel £444.59 for 5 nights or £476.58 for Superior queen room.
Herald square hotel £796.43 queen room for 5 nights
These may be worth looking into maybe even get a better price? these prices taken from booking.com:
Holiday Inn Wall Street, king room £807 for 5 nights
Holiday inn Sixth Avenue, king room £863.44 for 5 nightsNew York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

Cabs from JFK to anywhere in manhattan are a fixed price regardless of time etc.
The flat fee is $45 however with tolls and tip this it's going to be $60-$65Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Thatsfabulous thank you very much for your help - some decent hotels....
Has anyone on here used priceline/hotwire? What's your thoughts? I seen a guy got The roosevelt (where I want to stay) for $110 per night from 13th - 16th december - absolute bargain in my eyes!! Another got it for around $140 (can't remember exact price) ...over new years eve this year....all through bidding...0
