It seems like a while since the Cosmopolitan had a plug, find it through http://www.hotelconxions.com/ and it tends to come out at a good price. Yes, it's at the bottom of Manhattan not the middle, but the subway is very close and we found it worked well for us.

Tonight I will be booking flights to New York from Dublin through United Airlines - works out at $510 - so about £330 or so....going on 9th December - return on 14th December

I'm just a bit worried about hotels - is it better to book closer to the time of going - say middle of november - I know prices are high because it's Christmas - but any advice that ANYONe can offer, would be great - even if its just your experience of a hotel etc....last time I went we stayed at Affinia Manhattan - got a room upgrade to a suite (4 of us - 2 bedroom suite) as we weren't happy with our small pokey rooms which were on separate floors (specifically asked for on same floor).....the upgrade was brilliant - amazing views of all over manhattan...

    Thanks

Snowy have you actually booked the flight yet? It's just rather than do it separately I find it's cheaper to book hotel and flight together on Expedia.
  • Hi

Yeah I considered it- Park Central Hotel with flights from dublin to newark for 5 nights works out at £915 per person incl taxes - pretty good deal..., however I need to book the flights separate (work are paying for my flights and need invoice and all that)...

What are your thoughts on expedia? I hear some people have trouble with them...

    Hi snowydogh

I haven't actually booked with Expedia yet but maybe someone else on this board may have had some experience with them.

Don't forget to check the hotel on Tripadvisor before booking. I just looked at the Park Central hotel on there and it got really bad reviews for not being clean etc.

Yeah seen some quite bad reviews for it - so prob won't go with that...

I booked my flights this morning with continental - had trouble last night processing - the software wasn't recognising my security code for my card - rang bank they said to ring continental - they said it was there fault and got me sorted this morning - only thing is the flight was cheaper by £30 last night so drafting a letter of complaint to say I missed out on the best deal because their software was faulty...RAge - I want an upgrade lol - just kidding...just acknowledging the fact would be nice

Our last 4 trips to NY have been booked through expedia, after a lot of comparing prices etc, and on each occasion the process and holiday has gone without a hitch, add to that i've booked hotels with them on several occasions for a few coutries across europe and our upcoming trip to san francisco.

Add to that you can get a few quid back through quidco and they dont surcharge for using credit cards either

  • Hi Phatbear

I have never used Quidco before but I have just registered with them. Is it quite a smooth process to be credited by them? Does it take a couple of months to go through? Just wondering whether to bother or not as it only works out to be about £40 back for a holiday. Thanks.

quidco is easy to use, just log in and then search for expedia on the site and click on the cashback link and bobs your fathers brother, yup the cash back takes a few months but its money for nothing, and £40 is £40!

  • Got my flights for £360 and then looking to spend about £500 each (£1000 - around £200 per night per room etc) in total for hotel - so works out at £860 or so each (hopefully cheaper with priceline).....which is cheaper than most I have seen on expedia so far.... expensive time of year - but with my work paying for my flights - I'll be looking to pay about £500 - 550 on hotel for 5 nights and thats me (obviously excluding spending money) Not bad for Christmas time in New York... hehe
