  • M4RKM - apparently there are appeals in place.

And as I say my research indicates that its not always the case that apartment lets for less than 30 days are illegal - but I, like you probably, am no a legal expert particularly in USA law so I'm not going to comment any more on this as its just a tit for tat exercise we're doing and not that helpful to posters looking for NYC advice.

So, I guess the end point of this is... There are apartments available for cheaper than hotels in great areas - but if people wish to book these apartments, they should be aware that they should be prepared to do a few checks before deciding to go ahead with this and use all the evidence to make their own decision.

People, please feel free to PM me following the 28 September if you want a review or details of the apartment.. However if my experience has gone badly I'll be sure to let you all know.

This is the MOST important part of these forums that i would rather read than "where can i get a coffee in times square" (sorry if anyones asked this)
My say on this is check check check and check again and you still maybe getting scammed as your not sure if your checking a scam. As there are so many illegal apartments or even ghost apartments around NYC.

Bloomies is on 59th and Lex therefore its mega close to the south east corner of central park and fao schwartz is on 58th and 5th so you could do the pair on the same day, ie sunday.

Dont forget to take your passport to macys and bloomies and pop into the customer service area to get your 10% out of towners discount.

Last trip we accidentaly ended up on the staten island ferry as the sun was setting behing the statue of liberty and it was amazing.

Personally still dont see the point of esb and top of the rock but each to their own.

Check in has nothing to do with your nationality, 60mins cab ride is pushing it, last trip it was well over an hour but that was mainly due to the weather.

Thanks for the feedback phatbear. I'm not too hot on shopping myself, which is why we've spread the shopping over a couple of days ;)

As for the time back to the airport, thanks for the info. When you say we'll over an hour, do you mean 1 1/2 hours, or nearly 2?

We go a few days before you. Its our 1st time but you seem to have a lot planned for Saturdayaft/evening. Wont it be too much bearing in mind jet lag?

What happens on Columbus Day? Is it a parade?

I'm not sure, I hope not! We're not sure how much there is to do/see in China Town / Little Italy, so it'll just be case of having a wander around and find some dinner.

Columbus day is a parade up fifth avenue, here's a (little!) bit more info: http://www.worldeventsguide.com/event/4326/New-York-City-United-States/Columbus-Day-Parade.html

Thank you - I'm looking for somewhere to stay from 14th-17th Oct (ie staying Thurs-Sat night, departing Sunday AM.) Our budget is about $200 a night although I have a feeling we'll need to stretch that a bit!

Have you checked using the holiday inn friends and family scheme, there are a few coming in close to $200 on there, if you can't find the link send me a private message and I will send it across.

    It’s not the Camelot — it’s the Scam-a-lot!

A plush residential building known as the Camelot just off Times Square is a favorite address for Internet con artists who rip off gullible vacationing Europeans for thousands of dollars.

It all depends on what model GHD's you have, I think the mark IV and above all have variable voltage, so they work. Anything before that and they won't.

I have mark IV's and brought them about 4 years ago I think xx

Just wondering, my friend sorted out our accommodation for our trip to NY in 4 weeks. We're staying at the Murray Hill East Suites which is getting decent reviews on TA. My question is, we've booked a studio suite with 2 double beds. What is the policy with bringing guests back? Or is this something that is dependant entirely on each hotel's own policies? The reason is, a friend of mine who i've spoken to online for around 6 years is also going to the same concert as us but she said she'll be camping out with her daughter overnight after the gig and the night before. She said she's done this before but I'd prefer it if she came back to our hotel and stayed in the room with us. Is this going to get me a swift beating from hotel management or does it not matter?
